AEW Shifts Kenny Omega Plans Amid Health Concerns

Published:

AEW has altered its creative direction regarding Kenny Omega because of ongoing health worries. The wrestling promotion delayed a highly anticipated match between Omega and Kyle Fletcher, as officials felt Omega was not at full strength and might struggle to perform at the expected level against Fletcher. This update on Kenny Omega AEW comes amid concerns about the wrestler’s physical condition.

New Storyline Introduces Andrade’s Return and Adjusts Omega’s Role

The planned singles match between Omega and Fletcher, a prominent figure in the Don Callis Family, had been building for several weeks. Expectations were high for this showdown, but AEW redirected Omega’s storyline, beginning with the sixth-anniversary episode of Dynamite. During this show, Andrade returned to attack Omega and joined Callis’ faction, initiating a fresh feud that required a different approach from Omega’s end.

Protecting Omega’s Health While Keeping Him in the Spotlight

Dave Meltzer explained the change, highlighting that in a normal situation, the match would have proceeded as planned but Omega’s health dictated otherwise.

“There is a reason that right now they aren’t going to do the match, as basically in a normal situation that would have been the match booked,”

Meltzer wrote.

“But Omega’s physical situation is not 100 percent, and the feeling was it was better right now not to put Omega in the situation of the kind of match he’d be expected to do with Fletcher.”

This adjustment allows AEW to maintain momentum for Omega while guarding his recovery. Facing Andrade is expected to demand a different wrestling style, which could be less taxing than the high-intensity contest with Fletcher.

Ongoing Health Concerns and Recent Activity

Kenny Omega’s physical condition has been a notable concern for several years. The former AEW World Champion has endured multiple injuries, including a severe episode of diverticulitis that kept him out of action for much of 2024. Nonetheless, Omega recently returned to the ring, participating in a trios match on Dynamite before Andrade’s attack highlighted the new storyline direction.

Implications for AEW’s Creative Direction

The feud with Andrade adds complexity to the Don Callis Family narrative and provides AEW with creative flexibility as Omega continues to recover. This shift reflects the company’s effort to balance athlete well-being with storytelling demands, making it possible for Omega to remain a central figure without compromising his health’s long-term status.
