AEW Star Kyle Fletcher Vows to End Kenny Omega’s Career

Published:

Kenny Omega has been issued a bold challenge by AEW TNT Champion Kyle Fletcher following an intense attack during AEW Dynamite on September 3. The assault, carried out by Fletcher and members of the Don Callis Family, left Omega injured and stretchered out of the arena, with the Canadian star yet to return to AEW events since.

Kyle Fletcher is making a clear statement as he seeks to cement his position at the top of AEW’s Florida-based promotion. Speaking on WMUL FM’s Rope Break podcast, the Australian champion named Kenny Omega as his ideal challenger for the TNT title, while asserting that AEW’s future lies beyond Omega’s presence.

Kyle Fletcher Issues Fierce Warning to Kenny Omega

During the interview, Fletcher did not hold back in addressing Omega directly. He expressed anticipation for Omega’s eventual return and promised to stop him from reclaiming the TNT Championship. Fletcher made it clear that he views Omega as a former star whose time in AEW is over, while positioning himself—nicknamed the ProtoStar—as the promotion’s future.

“I think there is a man who I recently dropped on his head through a table, who is someone I’ve already mentioned as one of my inspirations that I would like to think is going to come back looking for me when he’s healthy again. So Kenny Omega, I am waiting for you. You can do your best to take this championship from me, but it will not happen. I will put you on the shelf for good because AEW doesn’t need you anymore. It needs the ProtoStar.” Kyle Fletcher, AEW TNT Champion

This threat underscores the growing rivalry within AEW as Fletcher aims to dominate the TNT title scene and assert himself as a leading figure. With Omega sidelined, Fletcher feels confident that his reign will remain unchallenged.

Reflecting on Wrestling Legacies and the AEW Environment

Beyond his confrontation with Omega, Fletcher shared his excitement about working alongside respected veterans in AEW. He specifically praised Dusty Rhodes, who remains a legendary figure in wrestling despite currently recuperating from surgery.

“Dustin was one of the people I grew up watching. I’ve known who Dustin Rhodes is since I was a wrestling fan. So I think that’s one of the coolest parts of wrestling for me is now being able to not just share the ring, but share a locker room and work with these people backstage that I idolized growing up and Dustin, especially, I think there’s some stat where he’s wrestled in five different decades might be like the only person to ever do that. So yeah to not only be in the ring, but to be able to beat someone like that for such a prestigious championship, it’s one of those things that you put on the resume, and I’m all about building my legacy and I want to become the best professional wrestler of all time. So I think things like that and, being the TNT champion, hopefully becoming the greatest TNT champion of all time, they all go into that, go into building that legacy that will last a lifetime.” Kyle Fletcher, AEW TNT Champion

Fletcher’s ambition to build a lasting legacy is evident as he acknowledges the significance of sharing the AEW locker room with notable figures and aiming to become the most accomplished TNT Champion ever.

Earlier this year, Fletcher came close to capturing the AEW World Championship when he challenged Hangman Adam Page at AEW All Out, though he was ultimately unsuccessful in that effort.

The Implications of Fletcher’s Threat and Omega’s Status

Kyle Fletcher’s warning to Kenny Omega highlights a tense situation in AEW’s competitive landscape. With Omega sidelined after the violent episode involving Fletcher and the Don Callis Family, questions linger about when or if the Canadian star will return to reclaim his position. Fletcher’s confidence signals a potential shift in AEW’s hierarchy, suggesting the company may be accelerating its focus on emerging stars like the ProtoStar.

Should Omega remain absent, Fletcher’s reign as TNT Champion could significantly alter AEW’s dynamics, potentially ushering in a new era for the brand’s mid-card title. However, if Omega returns, fans can expect a high-stakes showdown fueled by intense rivalry and Fletcher’s vow to permanently diminish Omega’s career.
