AEW‘s Kyle Fletcher, the current TNT Champion, expressed his ambition to reach the mic skills of WWE icons John Cena and The Miz. At only 26 years old, the Australian wrestler has earned a strong following worldwide but acknowledges that his promo work still has room for growth.
Despite excelling inside the ring, Fletcher once lagged in delivering compelling promos. His recent partnership with Don Callis has provided him more opportunities on the microphone, leading to significant progress in his verbal skills over the past year. Fletcher shared on Busted Open Radio that while he is trying to forge his own style, he still draws inspiration from two of wrestling’s most renowned speakers.
“I’ve really been trying to, not so much lean on inspiration from other people,” he said. “Since I shaved my head, I’ve gotten so many comparisons to other people, I’m really trying to hammer home my own path and carve out my own path. Guys I look at, even still, when it comes to promos, every time I watch (John) Cena and one of his promos, I’m left with the feeling of, ‘This dude is the greatest on the microphone that I’ve ever witnessed.”

He further elaborated on his aspirations to reach that elite level with his mic work, particularly citing The Miz as another major influence from his childhood wrestling fandom.
I have that feeling, and that’s something that I strive to achieve, that level on the mic. The Miz was one of my guys growing up. That’s another one that I still listen to and watch and go, ‘He’s so good on the mic.’ There are people that I probably look to, but I’m trying now to not specifically draw inspiration from them, more so, ‘How do I get to that level?’”

With this intense dedication to improving the art of promo delivery, Fletcher is positioning himself as a future top talker in AEW.
Kyle Fletcher’s Ambition Extends to Every AEW Championship
Following a significant victory over Hiromu Takahashi, Fletcher was asked about potential matches for the AEW Unified Championship held by Kazuchika Okada. While not directly issuing a challenge, Fletcher made it clear that no AEW title is beyond his reach.

“I think no championship is totally off limits. I think right now my focus is very apparent on the TNT Title and making this title reign feel as big and important as possible, and to be the greatest TNT Champion of all time. But, I make no qualms about my big aspirations in the world of professional wrestling and within AEW. So, the Unified Championship is quite a pretty championship if I say so myself. I would love to see it around my waist, as I would love to see the World Title around my waist, the Tag Team Titles, the Trios Titles. They’re all coming home at some point, without a doubt.”

Meanwhile, rumors linking Fletcher with Wardlow have been dismissed by AEW President Tony Khan, clarifying Fletcher’s current trajectory within the company.
