Dominik Mysterio, WWE Intercontinental Champion and a member of Judgment Day, spoke about his recent win against AJ Styles at WWE SummerSlam during an appearance on the My Mom’s Basement podcast. In discussing the AJ Styles WWE SummerSlam match, Mysterio revealed his confidence and satisfaction with the outcome of the event that took place on Sunday.
Preparing Differently for the Match
Mysterio detailed how he approached the match with assurance, explaining that unlike the common view that he needed to prepare, it was Styles who had to get ready to face him. He commented,
“It was an amazing 20-year anniversary. Everyone kept asking me, like, ‘Oh, what did you do to prepare?’ I didn’t do anything. AJ had to prepare for me. You know, I’m the greatest Mysterio of all time, the greatest Intercontinental champion of all time. It was a great time.”
This statement highlights Mysterio’s belief in his dominance as a wrestler and his pride in being the top Intercontinental champion.
The Meaning Behind His Navy Blue Gear
Regarding his choice of attire during the bout, Mysterio explained the symbolic nature of his navy blue gear. He attributed it to a challenge against his father’s legacy, saying,
“Yeah, that was… I don’t want to say an homage, but it was a slap in the face to, you know, my deadbeat dad’s gear in 05′. It was almost like a- I’m going to do it better than you did.”
This reflected both a personal message and a statement of intent as he sought to outdo his father’s wrestling persona.
Ranking the Victory Among His Career Highlights
Mysterio ranked this win over Styles as one of his greatest triumphs, emphasizing its significance tied to the 20th anniversary of his family’s wrestling history and his own five-year milestone in the industry. He said,
“Man, for me, other than there’s been a couple of good victories for me, but like that one would probably rank at the top. I’ve beaten my deadbeat dad, but this was, was special for me, 20 years and now coming in my five year debut anniversary, so like, it was very special. Like I said, no Judgment Day, nobody, and it wasn’t a shot at the Judgment Day. Like I love my family. But it was more of like, like a shot to the haters. Cause everyone was expecting like, ‘Oh, who’s going to come out and help them, is Roxanne going to come out? Is Finn going to come out?’ Like, no, no one came out. I told him I was going to do it all on my own and I did just that. I outsmarted AJ and I beat him right in the middle of that ring.”
Mysterio’s description conveys a mix of personal motivation and a desire to prove doubters wrong by winning without outside assistance from his faction or family.

The Significance of Dominik’s SummerSlam Victory
This victory at SummerSlam could mark a defining moment in Dominik Mysterio’s wrestling career, reinforcing his status as a leading wrestler distinct from his family’s shadow. His success against a high-profile opponent like AJ Styles is likely to raise his profile within WWE and among fans. The fact that Mysterio relies solely on his abilities rather than faction support may change perceptions about his independence and skill in the ring.
