Braun Strowman, the former WWE star, is currently in discussions to take on the legendary character of Jason Voorhees in a new installment of the Friday the 13th franchise. In a recent interview with Collider, Strowman confirmed talks between his agency and parties involved in the project, signaling potential movement toward reviving the horror series with him in the lead role. The 40-year-old star’s transition into acting centers on this opportunity, though legal and trademark issues could delay or derail the project’s approval.
There may be some talks about it with people that I know and my agency,
Strowman said.
If we could ever get everybody to get back on the same page and allow the things to work, I might be the next Voorhees.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding rights and the project’s development, Strowman appears enthusiastic about the possibility. His physical stature and wrestling background make him an ideal fit to portray the silent, menacing slasher wielding a machete. He even expressed willingness to shave his signature beard to fully embrace the role.
Oh, Friday the 13th. Jason, dude… I would gladly shave this beard off to play that character.
Strowman’s involvement could also attract fans from the wrestling world, adding a fresh audience to the horror film’s viewership.
Moving From Wrestling to a Film Career
As Strowman contemplates this new chapter, he revealed that he is stepping back from wrestling and shifting focus toward acting. He described himself as “semi-retired” from wrestling, indicating a clear change in career direction. The former WWE competitor is exploring new opportunities outside the ring, aiming to establish himself in Hollywood.
Even like in our business too, like the wrestling side of things… I say ‘our business,’ I’m semi-retired from wrestling now too because I want to be an actor,
Strowman confessed.
Despite his departure from active wrestling, Strowman showed respect for wrestlers breaking into the industry.
I always have so much admiration for these young and up-and-coming talents that are looking for a shoe in… I was that kid at one point.
If cast as Jason Voorhees, Strowman could make a significant impact in the horror genre, potentially marking his breakout role even if his character remains masked and faceless. This opportunity sits at the crossroads of his wrestling past and his ambitions in film, representing a major turning point in his career.
