During a recent Sports Illustrated event, Britt Baker, former AEW Women’s World Champion, addressed her reduced presence in professional wrestling and shared personal reasons influencing her choices. Speaking with Adam Glyn, Baker shed light on concerns affecting her career and why she no longer practices dentistry full time.
Concerns Over Fan Behavior and Personal Safety
Baker revealed that the intense reactions from wrestling fans have sometimes posed threats to her safety. She described how passionate supporters occasionally crossed lines, leading to frightening experiences. When asked about her dental career, she confirmed, “Not full-time anymore.” She explained,
“As much as I love the wrestling fans, they’re a little passionate, sometimes for their own good and for my own safety. And it got a little carried away sometimes with some—some scary wrestling fans wanting to come kill me because I’m a bad guy.”
Despite these challenges, Baker expressed appreciation for fan engagement, encouraging continued discussion about her role in wrestling by saying,
“I just love that the fans are still talking about me. So keep the chatter up, ’cause I love it and just stay tuned.”
Continuing Her Role Despite Risks
Although Baker is wary of the dangers linked to extreme fan reactions, she remains dedicated to portraying her wrestling persona, specifically as a heel character. She attributed the intensity of fan responses to how well she executes her character work but acknowledged that the reality of these reactions was unsettling. Baker ended the conversation by thanking supporters who have stood by her throughout this transition period.
