From Wrestling Legend to Broadcast Booth
Danielson concluded his full-time wrestling career in October 2024, after relinquishing the AEW World Championship title. At 44, he remains connected to AEW both on-screen occasionally and in behind-the-scenes roles. While he has not ruled out returning to competition, Danielson feels a sense of completion with his wrestling journey.
With the last six months of my wrestling career being in as much pain as I was, that put me in this thing of ‘I think I’m ready to be done,’
he shared during a recent media tour for AEW’s upcoming 2026 return to Australia.
I’m very fulfilled by my career, very fulfilled by my life right now, and I still get to stay involved with professional wrestling which is something I love to this day.
Significance of This Transition for AEW and Fans
This week’s AEW Dynamite event will take place at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, marking the final AEW show held at the historic former ECW Arena. Danielson’s full-time integration into the commentary team adds a new layer of expertise and insight to the broadcast, likely elevating the viewing experience. His shift from active wrestler to commentator reflects a broader evolution in his career while maintaining his influence within the promotion.
