During the promotion of WWE Unreal’s second season on Netflix, Chelsea Green, former WWE Women’s United States Champion, spoke candidly on Stars SiriusXM 109 about the difficulties she faces when auditioning for acting roles outside her wrestling career. As a WWE superstar, Green highlighted the challenge of separating her wrestling identity from her pursuit of acting opportunities.
The Complex Balance Between Wrestling Fame and Acting
Green explained the unique situation she encounters since her wrestling name is the same as her real name, making it impossible to hide her WWE background. She said,
“So it’s funny because my name is Chelsea Green. My real name is Chelsea Green. My wrestling name is Chelsea Green.”
She described how casting directors and agents inevitably research her wrestling persona, weighing her large social media following as both an asset and a liability.
She added,
“So it’s good and it’s bad because I can’t separate myself. If they look me up, which they’re gonna look anyone up who they have like a callback especially. Or if my agent pitches me because they think it’s a good idea. Oh, she has so many followers because that’s a thing now,”
Green continued.
“Hollywood wants people with followers, but then they don’t want wrestlers. So it’s like a very weird vibe where I use it to my advantage, but if I’m feeling like it’s not to my advantage, I will shut it down and that’s why I took off all my nails. I don’t have fake eyelashes. I don’t have fake hair. Like I don’t have all the things when I go to those auditions. I look like Joe Schmo. Like the next girl because I would rather that than what you see on my Instagram, which is glam times a thousand.”
Contrasting Appearances Between Wrestlers and Actors
Green also commented on the physical differences she observes between wrestlers and actors, pointing out how wrestlers often have extraordinary stage presence and striking looks, while actors tend to have a more “real” and natural appearance. She said,
“Yeah. You know, a lot of wrestlers, they don’t look like normal humans. They look incredible. Like, they look like they belong on a stage. But that’s not what actors look like, right? Actors look real beautiful. Skinny, right, but very real.”
Recent Career Highlights and Current Status
After holding the WWE Women’s United States title for 56 days, Chelsea Green recently lost the championship to Giulia. Besides her wrestling career, she currently holds the AAA World Mixed Tag Team Championship alongside Ethan Page, showcasing her continued prominence in professional wrestling.
The Broader Impact of Chelsea Green’s Journey
Green’s story reflects the broader tension that WWE superstars face when crossing into Hollywood, where their wrestling fame can both open doors and create barriers. Her experience sheds light on the industry’s complex attitudes toward wrestlers as actors and the personal adjustments performers undertake to be taken seriously in different fields. As Chelsea Green continues to navigate her dual career path, her journey may influence how other wrestlers approach similar transitions in entertainment.
