Chelsea Green has shared that WWE producer Michael Hayes apologized to her after his remarks on the Netflix series Unreal. Hayes had questioned Green’s ability to be a main event talent, describing her as a supporting act for the company’s top stars. This led to backlash from wrestling figures including Kevin Nash, Rikishi, and The Undertaker. Green disclosed Hayes’ apology during her interview on The Nikki & Brie Show.
Green Reflects on Hayes’ Comments and Support from The Undertaker
Despite initially taking offense, Green acknowledged the complexity of Hayes’ statements. She expressed respect for The Undertaker, who has supported her career and even booked her to win the mixed AAA tag team title, demonstrating belief in her talent before Hayes’ remarks. Green said,
“And look, like Michael Hayes has apologized to me and we’ve spoken about it and everything, but at the end of the day, I know that Undertaker has had my back because he booked me to win the mixed AAA tag title. So, he has believed in me since before Michael Hayes said that,”
Chelsea Green explained.
The Role of Supporting Wrestlers in Building Main Event Stars
Green also shared her perspective on the necessity of supporting wrestlers in the industry. She sees some truth in Hayes’ viewpoint that her role helps elevate others, like Tiffany Stratton, who relies on opponents like Green to develop her character and engage the crowd. Green stated,
“Everyone got so upset obviously, about what Michael Hayes said about me. But, like, at the end of the day, that’s also kind of what he was saying. Like, was he putting me down a little bit? Yes. Was he maybe putting a ceiling on me? Yes. [But] I looked at it like, Tiffany Stratton cannot be Tiffany Stratton without a Chelsea Green, without me laying on the ground and her pinning me, right? Like, the crowd can’t react to nothing. The crowd is reacting because she did an amazing move on me or because I took an amazing bump for her. Like I there’s there’s room for everyone.”
Enduring Encouragement from Veteran Wrestlers
As a former WWE Women’s United States Champion, Green values the encouragement she has received from experienced wrestlers who understand the challenges of professional wrestling. She plans to remember The Undertaker’s support for a long time as she continues her career. This ongoing recognition suggests that while controversy can arise, respected voices in wrestling can offer vital backing to emerging talent.
