Wrestler Cody Rhodes has expressed a strong desire to see WWE bring back monthly live events, often referred to as house shows, citing benefits for talent development and team bonding. During a recent episode of his podcast, What Do You Wanna Talk About?, Rhodes explained to Jey Uso that he has actively raised this topic with top company officials, urging them to revive these events on a regular basis.
Benefits of Reintroducing House Shows for Talent and Fans
Cody Rhodes proposed running a weekend of house shows once a month, suggesting a fresh approach to the traditional format. He recommended these events be branded as partially canonical yet flexible, allowing some storylines to advance while mixing in experimental or less familiar matchups. Rhodes emphasized that this format would also help wrestlers gain valuable experience and build camaraderie within the company.
Rhodes stated,
“I had suggested to some of the top brass in the company, for a myriad of reasons – comradery, the reps, the general sense of working here.”
He elaborated,
“I said, ‘Run one weekend a month. Call them house shows.’ Make them almost poke the fourth wall a little bit, in terms of what they are. They’re canon, but they’re not. You’re gonna see some of the stuff you see on TV, but it’s gonna be a bit more of a mixed bag, and maybe you’re gonna see people you’ve never seen before, who are getting their first rep in front of you.”
Support from Peers and Comparisons to AEW’s Live Events
Jey Uso expressed support for Rhodes’ suggestion and noted his surprise that many current younger wrestlers have never experienced the kind of intensive live event schedule that helped previous generations develop their skills in front of live audiences. This gap in experience could affect the preparedness and growth of new talent within WWE.
All Elite Wrestling (AEW) has hosted live shows branded as House Rules, which share several aspects with Rhodes’ vision for WWE’s live events revival. Recently, AEW held a live event during their tour in Australia where wrestlers Cassie Lee and Jessie McKay, collectively known as The IInspiration, made their AEW debuts, demonstrating the company’s focus on giving opportunities to emerging talent in these settings.
Potential Impact of Monthly WWE Live Events Resurgence
While WWE currently runs live events much less frequently than in the past, Rhodes’ ideas could lead to an increase in these shows, providing fans with fresh content and unique wrestling experiences. Such a move could also serve as a developmental platform for upcoming talent, allowing them to hone their skills outside of television programming.
If WWE adopts this proposal, fans might anticipate a regular cadence of vibrant live events once per month, blending canonical storylines with experimental matchups, ultimately enriching the wrestling calendar and strengthening wrestler development.
