Dakota Kai’s AEW Return Ends in Shocking Defeat

Dakota Kai, formerly a WWE Superstar, made her highly anticipated return to the wrestling ring but suffered a surprising loss in her first match since leaving WWE. She reappeared at EVE’s Wrestle Queendom event, competing under the ring name Charlie, where she faced AEW star Kris Statlander for the EVE International Title. Despite an intense twelve-minute match that featured strong exchanges, Statlander secured victory by hitting three consecutive Tombstone Piledrivers.

Kai’s last match prior to this was on WWE Main Event, where she earned a win over Ivy Nile on March 24, 2025. After that, she did not compete again and was officially released by WWE in May, ending a three-year tenure with the Stamford-based wrestling company.

Insights Into Dakota Kai’s WWE Experience and Challenges

In a recent conversation with Busted Open Radio, Dakota Kai reflected on her challenging journey as a WWE performer. As a two-time WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion, she described encountering a persistent “glass ceiling” that limited her progress within the company. She explained that changes in management impacted her career trajectory and that several factors outside her control prevented her from advancing as she hoped.

“Being in that company, I think there’s sort of a glass ceiling. And I don’t think that’s not a unique experience by any means. Everyone has to deal with that in some form. The change in management had a big part to play, too. It was surprising only because we were just coming off the Intercontinental Tournament, and obviously plans change. It’s one of those things where I was constantly fighting that glass ceiling. Even when I thought I was going to break through it, it obviously came back. There were a lot of things at play that were out of my hands,” Kai said.

What Dakoka Kai’s Future in Wrestling Might Hold

Dakota Kai’s departure from WWE closed a chapter that included notable achievements but also undeniable struggles behind the scenes. Her recent AEW-related match at EVE’s Wrestle Queendom revealed her readiness to compete once more, though the loss was a tough reintroduction to the spotlight. Fans and industry watchers are now left wondering whether Kai will continue to build her career outside WWE or possibly make a future return to the global wrestling powerhouse.
