Darby Allin Says He Doesn’t Fear Losing His AEW Spot Despite Mount Everest Challenge

Published:

Darby Allin, a prominent figure in All Elite Wrestling (AEW), recently addressed concerns about potentially losing his position with the company while pursuing his personal goal of climbing Mount Everest. Speaking on Steve-O’s Wild Ride Podcast, Allin dismissed worries about his AEW spot, emphasizing his focus on life beyond wrestling. This conversation took place amid Allin’s five-month absence from AEW to complete the challenging climb of Mount Everest.

Allin’s Perspective on Fame and Wrestling Priorities

During the podcast, Allin expressed a clear indifference toward maintaining his wrestling status for the sake of fan attention or relevance. He explained that many wrestlers fear losing their position because they worry fans will forget about them, but he feels differently.

“That’s the thing I was talking about earlier, is so many people never want to give up their spot, because they’re gonna feel like the fans will forget and they’ll become irrelevant. I don’t give a f*ck. Take my spot, I do not give a shit,”

Allin stated openly. He shared that before his Everest climb, he spoke with AEW owner Tony Khan and told him he didn’t need a championship or any wrestling accolades to feel successful.

Finding Fulfillment Beyond Championships

Allin emphasized that his personal achievements now outweigh any wrestling titles. He described his Everest accomplishment as a pinnacle life moment unmatched by any championship.

“I’m already winning in life. There’s nothing that compares to this,”

he said. Allin also highlighted that climbing Everest at age 32, when he feels in peak physical condition, allowed him a unique experience many others in his field cannot pursue due to career obligations. He concluded with another bold statement about his priorities:

“So I was like, dude, I don’t give a f*ck. I don’t care. The more and more I’m in this, the less and less I care about the spotlight. It’s weird. I’m more at peace with just doing crazy shit on my property in Atlanta than you know. So I’m like, dude, take my spot. I don’t care.”

Upcoming Match and AEW Return

Despite his detachment from concerns about his wrestling status, Allin remains an active competitor in AEW. He is set to face Jon Moxley later this month at the AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door event, marking a significant return to the ring following his expedition. Fans and analysts alike await how his experience outside wrestling might influence his in-ring performance.

The Broader Impact of Allin’s Journey

Darby Allin’s willingness to temporarily step away from his wrestling career to pursue a daunting personal challenge sends a powerful message about balancing professional life with personal aspirations. His statements reflect a shift in mindset within the wrestling world, where success is increasingly being measured by diverse personal accomplishments. This attitude could encourage other athletes to prioritize meaningful life experiences, even at the risk of professional uncertainty.
