Darby Allin, the AEW wrestler and former longest-reigning TNT Champion, experienced an unusual and tense incident while appearing on KFMA 102.1’s Podcast Broadcast to promote AEW’s March 7 Collision event in Tucson, Arizona. During the live interview, Allin was taking the call via speakerphone inside an Uber when the driver abruptly interrupted, complaining about the use of speakerphone in his vehicle.
Uber Driver Demands End to Interview on Speakerphone
The driver’s frustration quickly escalated as he interrupted Allin mid-conversation, saying,
I’d hate to interrupt your ‘therapy session’ or whatever, but it’s kind of rude of you to be on speakerphone in someone’s Uber.
Allin politely replied,
Is it cool if I finish?
The driver remained adamant, replying,
Look man, I’ve been driving since 5 a.m. I’m tired. Can you just put the phone up? It’s a little rude.
Although Allin and the radio hosts explained that the conversation was part of a nationally broadcast live interview, the driver showed little patience and insisted,
I don’t care [what the reason is], can you just put the phone away?
Escalating Tension Ends with Darby Allin Ejected from Vehicle
The tension mounted as Allin and the hosts exchanged laughs over the unexpected dispute, but the situation soon became serious. The driver pulled the Uber over to the side of the highway, shouted at Allin, punched the steering wheel, and ordered him to exit the car. After forcing Allin out, the driver sped away, leaving him stranded on the highway to finish the interview alone.
Impact on Darby Allin and AEW Promotion
This confrontation not only interrupted a professional wrestler’s promotional interview but also highlighted the unpredictable challenges faced during live remote appearances. Given Allin’s prominent role in AEW and his status within the wrestling community, this incident could affect future logistical arrangements for media engagements. As AEW continues its Collision tapings and other events, ensuring smoother communication channels for talent like Allin may become a higher priority to avoid similar disruptions.
