Eddie Kingston, who has been off AEW programming for over a year due to a major injury, has shared news that fans are interpreting as a sign of his imminent comeback. Known as the Mad King, Kingston had been experiencing a strong run in 2024, holding the Triple Crown Champion title and winning the first Continental Classic tournament. His absence began after he suffered a torn ACL, a torn meniscus, and a tibial fracture, which forced him to withdraw from last year’s Double or Nothing event. Although AEW initially hoped for his return by this year’s Double or Nothing, Kingston required additional time to fully recover and prepare for his return to the ring.
Throughout this extended period, Kingston‘s rehabilitation advanced slowly but steadily. Under the guidance of Cezar Bononi, he has focused on improving both his physical conditioning and nutrition. Recently, Kingston stunned followers by posting a photo from inside a wrestling ring, signaling a key step in his comeback.
Challenges Faced by Eddie Kingston During His Recovery
Widely respected by fans for his authentic and relatable approach, Eddie Kingston has also been open about personal struggles related to his health and body image throughout his recovery. His journey was made more difficult by weight gain and emotional strain, which he described candidly in discussions with Cezar Bononi. Kingston explained that his physical condition visibly declined during his injury downtime, something close friends noticed during visits.
“So, I gained a bunch of weight on this injury ’cause, you know, I got down and out. It is what it is. You know what I mean? You got to work past it. But you could tell physically that I was down and out. Like, I could — people would visit and I’ll be talking to them, and you could tell I sound happy because they’re there. The beard, everything. They looked at me, and they knew just physically by how I looked, they were like, ‘Oh, he’s not [good],'” Kingston said.
