Edgar McGregor SJSU Grad Turned Trash: Amidst the celebratory sea of San Jose State fall 2023 graduates, one stood out not just for receiving his Spartan climate science degree but for his commitment to a unique passion. Before donning his cap and gown, Edgar McGregor was already immersed in his day job—cleaning up trash.
For McGregor, this daily act of public service is more than a routine; it’s a vital part of his life. His journey began in the spring of 2019 but traces back to his childhood, fueled by a desire to make a positive impact on the world.
His mother, Melinda McGregor, proudly shared, “Every kid needs to have something that they’re very interested in. This is just his thing. Everybody has their thing. And this one’s his.”
Edgar McGregor’s passion has become a movement. With a remarkable 1,607-day streak of daily clean-ups, he utilizes social media, particularly Instagram, to inspire others. His 44,000 followers have embraced the cause, contributing to cleaner communities across northern and southern California.
“If everyone just did this for five minutes a day, we would not have the trash crisis we have,” McGregor emphasized. As the new graduates embarked on their journeys, McGregor, with his Spartan degree in hand, continued his mission to make the world a cleaner and better place.
“I sincerely wish people would join me. Because it’s the best part of my life,” he expressed, signaling his unwavering commitment to the ongoing battle against pollution.
