Emily Hampshire Apologizes for Insensitive Johnny Depp and Amber Heard Halloween Costume

Emily Hampshire Apologizes: Emily Hampshire has apologized for dressing up as Johnny Depp and Amber Heard for Halloween, a move that received criticism due to the couple’s involvement in a trial related to allegations of domestic abuse.

In a statement posted on her Instagram account, the “Schitts Creek” actress expressed her remorse for her choice of costumes, acknowledging that it was insensitive and ignorant. Hampshire’s statement read, “I want to address what is one of the most thoughtless, insensitive, and ignorant things I’ve ever done. For Halloween, I stupidly thought it would be funny to dress as Johnny Depp and Amber Heard. I am deeply sorry and ashamed for putting something that awful out in the universe.”

She emphasized that domestic abuse is a serious issue that should never be made light of. Hampshire added, “These are real issues with real people, and I REALLY regret my actions. In the future, I will do better. I’m so sorry.”

The photos of her and her friend in these costumes were deleted after facing backlash, but TMZ published them. The costumes included Hampshire with slicked back hair dressed as Depp, while her friend portrayed Heard. They had props like a wine bottle and fake feces, referencing the trial’s testimony about Depp finding feces in their bed.

Johnny Depp and Amber Heard engaged in legal proceedings in 2022, with Depp accusing Heard of defamation in a 2018 opinion piece she wrote for the Washington Post.
