Laurie McGuane overcame pancreatic cancer through surgery and treatment. Meanwhile, Jimmy was diagnosed with Merkel cell carcinoma, a fast-spreading cancer.

Despite health issues, Jimmy remained cheerful and positive until the end. Laurie remembered the times she and her brother shared, telling childhood stories and laughing at his humor. I’ve never seen Jimmy sad. She said, “Not even at the end.” They always laughed and had a good time together.

Laurie admired her brother’s strength and determination to live fully, even during cancer treatment. She continued horse riding during treatment like Jimmy did with his singing. When his cancer worsened, he had to stop shows, revealing his longing for performing.

Jimmy Buffett’s website had a tribute about his love for music and his fans. He played his final show in Rhode Island in July despite being sick.

Tom McGuane, Laurie’s husband and Jimmy’s friend described the famous singer as “high-spirited, fun-loving, hard-working, and creative.” He was amazed at how Jimmy stayed positive while fighting cancer.
