AEW Champion Sparks Fury Claiming She’s Better Than John Cena

Published:

Mercedes Mone, the current AEW TBS Champion, recently ignited controversy by asserting that she is a superior actor compared to John Cena, a 17-time <a href="https://cynicaltimes.org/category/wrestling-news/wwe/”>WWE World Champion turned Hollywood star. This claim sparked heated reactions from wrestling fans and industry observers, fueling the ongoing debate surrounding the John Cena AEW champion controversy.

John Cena transitioned from WWE to Hollywood in the mid-2010s, earning recognition for his roles in major films such as Bumblebee and Fast & Furious, as well as starring in the television series DC’s Peacemaker. Meanwhile, Mercedes Mone has pursued acting with recurring appearances as Koska Reeves on The Mandalorian in its second and third seasons, and she made her film debut in The Collective in 2023.

Despite her growing acting portfolio, Mone’s recent interview with TV Insider, where she claimed she should be ranked just behind Dwayne The Rock Johnson among wrestlers turned actors—placing herself ahead of Cena—did not sit well with many fans. The reaction online included strong criticism, with one fan stating she is

“not even close to The Cenation’s Leader’s acting ability,”

while another commented that she had “lost it.”

Many supporters of Cena highlighted his performances, contrasting them with Mone’s work on The Mandalorian. Fans pointed out that Cena’s acting in Peacemaker and his film roles stood out more prominently compared to Mone’s projects. Several also referenced other wrestlers-turned-actors like The Rock and Batista, suggesting that Mone’s claim over Cena was unfounded.

Upcoming WWE Match Featuring John Cena and Rising Star Logan Paul

As part of John Cena‘s farewell tour, he is scheduled to compete in a high-profile match at WWE‘s upcoming Premium Live Event, Clash in Paris. This will mark Cena’s first-ever match against Logan Paul, a rising talent and internet phenomenon, drawing significant attention from fans and media alike.

This event will be the last WWE Premium Live Event to air on Peacock domestically, as the WWE recently secured a multi-year streaming deal with ESPN, shifting all future PLE broadcasts to ESPN’s direct-to-consumer platform. The first WWE event on ESPN’s new service will be Wrestlepalooza on September 20 in Indianapolis, where John Cena is rumored to face Brock Lesnar.

Before Wrestlepalooza, however, the Clash in Paris event will provide fans an exciting showdown, further underscoring Cena’s continuing influence in wrestling as he prepares to step away from full-time competition. This match will be a critical moment in Cena’s farewell tour, underscoring the significance of his legacy in WWE while welcoming new stars like Paul to the spotlight.
