John Cena shared insights about his mindset during the filming of The Marine at the recent Boston Fan Expo. The movie, which marked Cena’s first major acting role, was shot in 2005 and released in 2006. Despite being the lead star and heavily promoted on <a href="https://cynicaltimes.org/category/wrestling-news/wwe/”>WWE television, Cena admitted that his focus was elsewhere during production.
Why Cena Was Distracted During The Marine Filming
Cena explained that he didn’t fully commit to the project because his main goal at the time was to become a world champion in WWE.
“I didn’t take it seriously. The movie came out in 2006, and I believe it was shot in 2005. I wanted to be world champion. The movie was fun, but I wanted to be elsewhere,”
he said. He added,
“That’s a huge takeaway because for me, if you’re not present, then you’re dealing with constant distractions. My heart wasn’t in it.”
Lessons Learned About Commitment and Presence
Reflecting on the experience, Cena emphasized how important it is to be fully engaged with your work.
“Now, when I’m on set, I’m there like I would be in a WWE arena, and I’m passionate about my work. You need to be present, and that was my biggest takeaway,”
he noted.
John Cena’s Success in Wrestling and Acting After The Marine
After The Marine, Cena achieved a record-breaking seventeen WWE world championship reigns, most recently reclaiming the title at WrestleMania by defeating Cody Rhodes. The two faced each other again at SummerSlam, where Rhodes won the title back. Beyond wrestling, Cena has established a strong presence in film and television, most notably starring in the second season of Peacemaker, which premiered on August 21.
Impact and Legacy of The Marine Franchise
The Marine earned $32 million at the box office and led to several sequels, with the latest installment, The Marine 6: Close Quarters, released in 2018. Cena’s reflection on his experience highlights how his priorities have evolved from his first film role to becoming a dedicated actor and champion both inside and outside the WWE arena.
