Since joining AEW full-time in 2023, Johnny TV, also known as John Morrison, has experienced inconsistent television exposure, frequently appearing alongside Mason Madden and Mansoor as part of the MxM Collection, forming MxM TV. Despite limited AEW wrestling opportunities, Johnny has maintained an active schedule by competing in Ring of Honor (ROH) and traveling regularly to Mexico for matches with Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL).
Recent Matches and Personal Reflections on Wrestling Career
Johnny recently participated in a high-stakes hair vs. hair match against Angel del Oro, which resulted in Johnny being shaved bald following the loss. Discussing the match during an interview with Chris Van Vliet on Insight, Johnny described it as one of his best matches in several years, expressing a renewed sense of fulfillment and connection to his wrestling identity.
“I gotta admit, the match did feel fantastic. That hair match, I feel like, was one of the best matches I’ve had in years. Was the first time in a while that I felt like me again. Kind of feeling unfulfilled, basically. Not just me, a lot of people in wrestling. But for me right now, in AEW, I feel underutilized. Can’t blame anyone, that’s just how wrestling promotions work. There’s only enough TV time for a certain amount of people. Those people at AEW, we’ve coined the term the island. Those people are on the island, so to speak. I don’t feel like I’m on the island with Tony or AEW right now. So because of that, I feel like I’m doing like 10-20% of what I’m capable of, storytelling-wise, wrestling-wise, in the ring. With CMLL, I’m on their island, and so I got to do everything that I could, and it was cool,”
he said.
Limited AEW Appearances and Ongoing Wrestling Pursuits
Johnny’s presence on AEW television has been sporadic; his most recent in-ring appearance was in November 2025 during a trios match on AEW Collision. In contrast, he has been more visible within ROH, where his last match was held in January. Outside AEW and ROH, his excursions to CMLL in Mexico offer greater opportunities to showcase his full range of abilities in the ring.
