Kenny Omega recently shared his thoughts on the importance of nurturing the future stars of All Elite Wrestling (AEW), calling on the promotion to place confidence in the next generation for AEW World Championship opportunities. Although Omega has publicly declared his intention to challenge MJF for the AEW title, he was defeated by Andrade El Idolo in a qualifying match for the number one contender spot at AEW Grand Slam Australia.
Omega Reflects on His Career Goals and Role in AEW
In a candid discussion with Justin Barrasso for Undisputed, Omega explained that many of his personal ambitions have been fulfilled, shifting his focus toward serving the broader needs of AEW.
“That’s a very good question. I’m in a position where a lot of my own personal goals are out of the way. I’ve checked all those boxes. The one personal goal I have left is to be the best utility tool for what the situation calls for,”
Omega stated.
Building the Future Beyond the Present Stars
Omega expressed concern about the sustainability of AEW’s main event scene if fresh talent is not developed. He stressed the necessity of helping upcoming performers gain experience and evolve, rather than relying repeatedly on a small group of established wrestlers.
“Maybe I could main event until I’m dead. But what follows after if I haven’t built anybody–or if I haven’t had a hand in helping the next generation rise up? That’s more so my role now than it’s ever been. We need to trust our future. There are people who need these experiences. They need to learn and evolve as performers. We can’t keep relying on the same small-knit group of people that have a track record of success. We need to be cognizant of what we’re doing moving forward,”
he commented.
Significance for AEW’s Championship Landscape
Omega’s remarks highlight a pressing issue within AEW about the need for long-term planning and investment in rising stars to ensure the promotion’s growth and longevity. His call to support younger talent signals his awareness of the company’s future beyond his own title pursuits. With established names like Andrade El Idolo and MJF continuing to dominate, Omega’s perspective emphasizes that cultivating diverse contenders is crucial for AEW’s ongoing success and fan engagement.
