Konosuke Takeshita Credits Wife Yuka Sakazaki’s Support for His G1 Climax Victory in NJPW

Published:

On August 17, Konosuke Takeshita claimed victory over EVIL in the finals of NJPW’s G1 Climax 35, securing one of the most prestigious wins in professional wrestling. This achievement grants him a future opportunity to challenge for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship. Takeshita’s accomplishment earned him the spotlight on the cover of Weekly Pro-Wrestling magazine in Japan.

Following his win, Takeshita participated in a press conference where he outlined his goals to maintain a prominent presence across multiple wrestling promotions. He aims to compete actively in AEW, NJPW, and DDT, including events in Mexico and Canada. In addition, Takeshita expressed interest in the upcoming IWGP World Heavyweight Championship bout between Zack Sabre Jr. and Nigel McGuinness at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door, stating he will be ready to challenge for the title when the timing is right.

The Crucial Emotional Support From Yuka Sakazaki During the Tournament

Takeshita opened up about the significant role his wife, Yuka Sakazaki, played in his success during the grueling G1 Climax tournament. Despite being apart, with Yuka remaining in America while Takeshita competed primarily in Japan, they maintained close communication through texts and phone calls.

“When I’m nervous or out of sorts before a match, she just tells me ‘Konosuke Takeshita is the best’ and with those words in mind, I’m able to go out there. In the ring, it’s always just me. There’s the fans, maybe people seconding outside the ring that can give some power, but in the end, it’s just about what you can do as an individual. There’s so much preparation that goes into that mentally. The moments before I step through the curtain are the most important,  and that’s when she is so important to me,”

Takeshita shared.

Personal Life and Wrestling Connections

Takeshita and Sakazaki revealed their marriage publicly via Instagram earlier in May. Both are signed with AEW and based primarily in the United States, balancing their personal and professional lives amid international wrestling commitments. Sakazaki has also engaged in playful exchanges online with Kyle Fletcher, a member of the Don Callis Family and Takeshita’s ally, teasing about being Takeshita’s true significant other. This camaraderie highlights the friendly rivalries existing within their circle.

Significance of Takeshita’s G1 Climax Achievement

Konosuke Takeshita’s G1 Climax win marks a critical milestone, positioning him firmly as a contender on the global wrestling stage. His announcement to pursue top titles across leading organizations signals an ambitious future with potential high-profile matches worldwide. The support from Yuka Sakazaki not only underscores the emotional strength behind his success but also highlights the importance of personal relationships in professional sports. Fans can anticipate Takeshita to remain a versatile and dedicated competitor, ready for the challenges ahead.
