AEW competitor Kris Statlander shared her enthusiasm for the idea of introducing Women’s Tag Team Titles during an interview with Fightful’s Grapsody. She reflected on her successful partnership with Harley and expressed optimism that a women’s tag division might soon become a reality.
The Importance of Tag Team Wrestling in Statlander’s Career
Statlander revealed her deep appreciation for tag team wrestling, influenced largely by one of her trainers who was a tag team champion.
“I would love that. We’ve had some success, Harley and I as a team. So maybe there’s a good chance somewhere in there for that. But also one of my trainers was a tag team champion. So kind of tag team wrestling is something that I am very fond of, and just something that was very heavily implemented in us when we were training, on how to have good tag matches and stuff,”
she explained.
Honoring Trainers Through Tag Team Matches
Statlander emphasized how her tag team work pays tribute to her trainers by adopting techniques they taught.
“So it’s been very nice to kind of almost like give a tribute to the people that trained me in a way. I’ve stolen some of my trainer’s stuff. Actually, I do it with Harley, and it’s been nice to kind of honor them in that way for showing me the proper way to do a tag match, and it’s just, it’s just nice to kind of like, get back to that,”
she said. She also noted the thrill and challenges that come with competing for a championship belt.
The Competitive Spirit Surrounding Title Contention
Statlander highlighted the fierce competition that tag team titles bring to the division.
“Also, every opportunity to win a belt is also every opportunity for someone to be your opponent and to hate you and to want to take you out,”
she stated, adding a warning to rivals.
“So, great, but also watch your back, everybody, because people love to fight for gold.”
The potential launch of AEW Women’s Tag Titles could create new rivalries and storylines, adding excitement and depth to the women’s division as competitors vie for prestigious new honors. Fans can anticipate further developments as AEW assesses this possibility.
