Mercedes Moné Shut Down by AEW Star After Hinting at New Championship Challenge

Published:

Mercedes Moné AEW Championship Challenge faced a quick rebuttal after the wrestler hinted at pursuing another title following her recent achievements. Since joining AEW on March 13, 2024, Mercedes Moné has acquired several championships, earning her the nickname “The Belt Collector.”

Moné currently holds the AEW TBS Championship and has also captured the CMLL World Women’s Championship and the IWGP Women’s Championship. Recently, she hinted at challenging for the EVE International Championship after Kris Statlander won the title against Anita Vaughan in London on July 4. Moné responded to a post about Statlander’s victory on X by using glowing eyes emojis, signaling interest in chasing that championship next.

However, Statlander was swift in replying to Moné’s suggestion. “Get away from me,” Statlander declared, effectively shutting down any immediate challenge from Moné for the EVE International Championship.

Upcoming Chance for Mercedes Moné to Secure AEW Women’s World Title

Mercedes Moné also has an opportunity to capture the AEW Women’s World Championship. She earned this chance after winning the Owen Hart Cup women’s tournament at Double or Nothing 2025 by defeating Jamie Hayter on May 25. This victory granted her the position of number one contender for the world title.

Her rivalry with the reigning AEW Women’s World Champion, Toni Storm, has been intensifying over recent weeks. During AEW Dynamite 300, Moné successfully retained her TBS Championship against Mina Shirakawa. After the match, Moné escalated tensions by attacking Storm, who had approached to check on Shirakawa, with her TBS title.

This confrontation added fuel to their ongoing feud, making the upcoming title match between Moné and Storm highly anticipated. If successful, Moné would add the AEW Women’s World Championship to her already impressive collection of belts.

Mercedes Moné’s pursuit of multiple titles highlights her growing dominance within AEW and beyond. Her interactions with champions like Kris Statlander and Toni Storm emphasize her ambitions, while also setting the stage for competitive storylines that could define the women’s division moving forward.
