Jim Cornette Slams Mercedes Moné Amid AEW Controversy: ‘Rotten Actress’

Published:

Jim Cornette has expressed strong doubts about Mercedes Moné’s recent comments urging the AEW locker room to improve their performance. The remarks came during an interview on the Marking Out podcast with MVP and Dwayne Swayze, where Moné stated that wrestlers without the passion to excel should “get the f*ck out.”

On his own podcast, Jim Cornette’s Drive Thru, Cornette challenged Moné’s right to criticize others, suggesting that her confidence in her star status clouds her judgment. He pointed out that while Moné is bold enough to demand others raise their game, she herself still has visible areas needing improvement.

Cornette’s Harsh Assessment of Moné’s Wrestling Skills and Persona

“She’s a rotten actress; she’s physically unimpressive. She’s ‘blegh’ to me in the ring because she misses as much as she hits. Or she’s trying to hold her wig on top,”

Cornette said, sharply criticizing her in-ring ability and presence.

“And you know — but she loves what she’s doing, we can’t deny that. She’s just not really very good at any of the parts of it. And did I mention those rotten promos? But she’s got dedication.”

Cornette used an analogy of a goat building a house to illustrate how dedication alone cannot compensate for lack of skill. He acknowledged that Moné has improved since moving from WWE to AEW but remarked that her current status is also influenced by Tony Khan’s backing. Cornette claimed Khan is

“wrapped around her teeny, tiny, little finger”

and paying her “quite a pretty penny for her efforts.

Mercedes Moné‘s View on Working with Tony Khan

In a separate interview with Scott Fishman from TV Insider, Moné praised Tony Khan, describing him as the best boss she has ever worked for. This positive view contrasts with Cornette’s critical observations, highlighting a divide in perspectives within the wrestling world regarding Moné’s role and influence in AEW.

Significance of the Controversy in AEW’s Locker Room Dynamics

The ongoing debate underscores tensions within AEW’s roster about performance expectations and leadership. Mercedes Moné’s outspoken call for higher standards has drawn both support and backlash, with Cornette’s remarks adding fuel to the controversy. How AEW wrestlers and management respond to such internal criticism may shape locker room morale and future storylines.
