Oba Femi NXT Status Update: Main Roster Call-Up Still Uncertain

Published:

Oba Femi’s NXT status remains unclear following his recent loss of the NXT Championship to Ricky Saints at the No Mercy event. Despite not appearing on the upcoming NXT vs. TNA Showdown special scheduled for next Tuesday, speculation has risen among fans about a potential call-up to WWE’s main roster.

Current Plans Indicate Femi Remains in NXT

According to insider Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE still intends to keep Oba Femi involved with NXT for the foreseeable future. Meltzer addressed the rumors surrounding Femi’s recent title loss and possible promotion, stressing that no official plans have confirmed such a move yet.

“Regarding the idea Oba Femi lost the NXT title so he could be brought to the main roster, this is one of those things where the answer as far as everyone knows is no, in the sense Femi is still in the plans for NXT going forward,”

Meltzer noted.

“However, they do swerve people and tell almost nobody about call-ups a lot of the time so people who should know get blindsided. So it’s a no as far as just about anyone knows, but there is no such thing as a 100 percent no.”

Tony D’Angelo’s Absence Explained

Questions have also arisen regarding Tony D’Angelo’s sudden disappearance from NXT television since the cliffhanger segment modeled after The Sopranos in July. Fans and observers have wondered whether an injury was the cause; however, Meltzer confirmed this is not the case.

“Regarding the disappearance of Tony D’Angelo, it is not injury related but he asked for time off.”

Implications for the NXT Roster Moving Forward

The ambiguous situation surrounding Oba Femi’s NXT status highlights WWE’s tendency to keep roster decisions confidential, which can lead to surprise call-ups that unsettle fans and insiders alike. For Femi, this means his future remains a source of anxiety as no definitive move to the main roster has been made public. Meanwhile, Tony D’Angelo’s temporary break adds another layer of uncertainty to NXT’s evolving landscape.

As WWE continues to develop storylines and prepare talent for potential elevation, followers of NXT news will need to watch closely for any official announcements regarding Femi and other key wrestlers. Until then, speculation will persist, and the true direction of these talents remains unpredictable.
