Paul Heyman on Bray Wyatt’s Genius: A Brilliance Fans and Industry Still Haven’t Fully Grasped

Published:

Paul Heyman recently spoke about the profound talent of the late Bray Wyatt, expressing concern that many fans and industry professionals have yet to fully understand the depth of Wyatt’s creative genius. Heyman shared his insights during an interview with CBS Sports, which coincided with the release of the WWE 2K25 video game update, Bray Wyatt: Becoming Immortal, launched on July 11. This update was linked to the game’s Island Mode and paralleled The Wyatt Sicks’ capture of the WWE Tag Team Championships on SmackDown that evening.

Recognizing Wyatt’s Unique Creative Vision

Heyman praised Wyatt as unmatched in his approach to character development, emphasizing that his understanding of intricate personas was unparalleled by anyone behind the scenes.

He understood that character and the characters that were all built within the character, better than anybody else,

Heyman said.

Better than any producer, writer, director that we had on staff or someone else from the outside.

Despite such admiration, Heyman also admitted that some choices Wyatt made initially confused even those closest to him, especially regarding his 2022 return taking on the Firefly Funhouse persona.

Wyatt’s Return as Firefly Funhouse: A Risk Few Understood

Heyman recalled his own uncertainty when Wyatt reintroduced the vulnerable side of his character during this period, a move that didn’t immediately make sense from a creative standpoint.

Why would you allow the vulnerabilities of that character to be shown, especially at this moment upon your return? Yet he did it. With such authenticity that he made us all look bad by saying, ‘What’s he doing? Why would he do this?’ Because he’s so committed.

Legacy Awaiting Full Appreciation

Paul Heyman suggested that it will take years before the true scope of Bray Wyatt’s work is analyzed and appreciated in its entirety. He believes that with time, the wrestling community will develop a deeper understanding of the brilliance embedded in Wyatt’s performances and storytelling.

It’s a body of work that has yet to be truly examined,

Heyman said, adding,

Years from now, when we look back and start to micro dissect what he did, I think we’ll realize he’s even far more brilliant than any of us ever realized.
