Paul Heyman Reveals His True Role in WWE Creative and Long-Term WrestleMania Planning

Published:

WWE Hall of Famer Paul Heyman has recently clarified his current involvement in WWE’s creative process, emphasizing his focus on long-term planning rather than weekly storyline development. Heyman, who has contributed extensively to ECW and WWE over the years, most recently held the position of Raw’s executive director in 2019.

Despite not being directly involved in the weekly creative grind, Heyman has maintained influence over major storylines, such as those involving Roman Reigns and the Bloodline faction. His contributions now primarily center on strategic discussions about major WWE events including WrestleMania and other signature pay-per-views.

Details on Heyman’s Long-Term Planning Role Within WWE

During an interview on the Ariel Helwani Show, Heyman described how his participation is limited to meetings focused on future events rather than the weekly scripts. He revealed that he attends meetings where WWE’s creative team plans out significant shows like WrestleMania editions several years ahead, Royal Rumble, Elimination Chamber, and Survivor Series events.

Heyman explained,

“Long-term meetings I’m in. When we start talking about next year’s WrestleMania or the year’s after WrestleMania or the year after that’s WrestleMania… When we start planning things out, I go to those meetings.”

He further clarified the distinction between his role and the weekly writers’ workload, stating,

“I’m not exposed to the weekly grind, like the other writers, who deserve a ton of credit. They’re exposed to that weekly grind. I’m not exposed to that.”
