Randy Orton Teases Open-Ended WWE Future, No Retirement Plan

WWE star Randy Orton, who has been a prominent figure in wrestling since 2002, recently shared insights on his WWE future, explaining he has no fixed retirement plan. Speaking to Jordan Mendoza of USA Today ahead of the Royal Rumble event, Orton emphasized that unlike some peers, such as John Cena who retired last December, he intends to keep his options open without setting a clear end date. This openness reflects his continued passion for performing and uncertainty about stepping away from the sport.

Orton’s Perspective on Retirement Versus Other WWE Stars

The 45-year-old veteran stated,

“I still got a lot more to give in the ring.”

Addressing thoughts about winding down his career, Orton added,

“Even though you might think that time’s approaching and I should be thinking about it, that’s not really my style.”

He contrasted his approach to that of Cena by saying,

“I don’t know that I’d want a definitive end date. I’d like to leave that door open. There’s no way I’m going to sit here now and go, ‘Oh, this is how I want to end my career.’ That’s Cena. That’s another instance where me and him differ. He’s much more well planned than I am.”

Orton’s Longstanding Dedication to WWE

Orton’s wrestling lineage extends across generations, as he is the son of former WWF competitor “Cowboy” Bob Orton and the grandson of Bob Orton Sr., a professional wrestling champion. Beginning his career with the Mid-Missouri Wrestling Association-Southern Illinois Conference Wrestling in 2000, he soon signed with WWE, training at Ohio Valley Wrestling before debuting on the main stage.

Having spent more than 25 years with WWE, Orton envisions a lifelong relationship with the organization, stating,

“I don’t see, really, me ever leaving the WWE,”

and

“Sticking with the WWE even after I’m done with the in-ring competition, that’ll probably be the way it goes down for me.”

Looking Ahead to the Royal Rumble in Saudi Arabia

Currently a 10-time WWE Champion and four-time World Heavyweight Champion, Randy Orton plans to compete in this year’s Royal Rumble on Saturday in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Despite the physical demands of wrestling, Orton’s remarks indicate he remains committed to performing while maintaining flexibility about when and how his wrestling career might conclude. His intentions to keep doors open highlight his ambivalence about retirement and signify that fans can expect to see more from him in the near future.
