Scorpio Sky’s AEW Return Exceeds Expectations After Near Career End, Joining New Faction Spotlight

Published:

After nearly two years away from AEW television, Scorpio Sky made a surprising return to the promotion on the 100th episode of Collision on July 5. The former TNT Champion quickly reclaimed attention by defeating Max Caster in an open challenge. Sky’s AEW return highlights mark a significant turn in his career, as he joined a newly formed faction featuring Top Flight members Dante and Darius Martin, Leila Grey, and manager Christopher Daniels.

Behind the Scenes of a Remarkable Night

Speaking candidly on his Creating Character podcast, the 42-year-old wrestler revealed that his AEW comeback played out far better than he anticipated. Knowing he would be welcomed by his hometown fans in Southern California, he was still surprised and grateful for the enthusiastic response he received both live and online. This night became one of the standout moments of his career.

Honestly, I think I consider that one of my career highlights,

Sky said.

It was a really, really special night. I was hoping it would go well, and it actually went so much better than I even thought it would.

From Doubt to a New Beginning in AEW

As an AEW original since its 2019 launch, Sky had faced a period of uncertainty when he was not regularly featured. At one point, he doubted whether he would ever return to AEW, feeling that his career with the company might be over. Despite this, he and AEW leadership were able to come to an agreement that reignited his position within the promotion.

To be completely honest with you, there was a time where I thought I was probably never going back to AEW,

he admitted.

You know, it just felt like things were heading in that direction. But that’s not what I wanted. And fortunately, it’s not what they wanted. And so, you know, we worked it out and I’m really happy to be back.

The Formation of a New Faction

Sky explained that his return and alliance with Top Flight, Leila Grey, and Christopher Daniels came together quickly after AEW President Tony Khan proposed the idea. The group aims to make a strong impact moving forward as a fresh faction within the company.

Everything kind of came together in a couple of weeks,

Sky said.

Tony had an idea, and I think it was a great idea. And we’re going to roll forward with it.

The Significance of Scorpio Sky’s Return for AEW

Scorpio Sky’s reemergence adds renewed energy to AEW’s roster and underscores the promotion’s willingness to embrace evolving storylines and factions. His association with Top Flight, Leila Grey, and Christopher Daniels positions this group as a new force within AEW, potentially shaping upcoming events and rivalries.
