The Miz Reveals Why Stopping His WWE Concussion Match Was Worst

Published:

The Miz detailed why halting his WrestleMania 27 WWE Championship match following a concussion would have been detrimental. During his recent conversation on the INSIGHT with Chris Van Vliet podcast, he recounted the incident when he suffered a concussion while defending his title against John Cena in the main event. The Miz emphasized how Cena, The Rock, and referee Mike Chioda supported and directed him throughout the match after the injury.

How Key Figures Supported The Miz During the Match

He shared specific moments where Cena and others helped him manage the situation despite his condition. The Miz recalled John Cena’s instructions as he held him in a fireman’s carry, urging him to cling to the ropes for safety. He also remembered referee Mike Chioda signaling him right after The Rock’s Rock Bottom to cover Cena, although his concussion caused confusion as he tried to re-enter the ring.

I remember Cena saying when he had me like this (in a fireman’s carry), ‘Just grab on to the ropes, kid, grab on to the ropes, we got you.’

The Miz said.

123, winning, and I remember Chioda telling, ‘Throw your title at The Rock.’ I’m like, ‘Yeah, okay.’ I remember The Rock coming in, ‘I got you, kid (as he starts punching him), don’t you worry, we got this.’ Then it was over, and I see stuff on the internet, and I was like, ‘I don’t remember that.’ I don’t remember being backstage, and me just being like (dazed), ‘Was it good?’ I don’t like seeing myself like that,

The Miz added.

Why Stopping the Match Was Not an Option

The Miz stressed that although his concussion was serious, stopping the match would have been the worst outcome. He expressed his complete trust in Cena, The Rock, and Chioda to protect him and guide the match safely. The combined efforts of the three ensured that he could perform as needed despite the injury.

But some people are like, ‘What would you have done if they stopped the match?’ That would’ve been the worst possible scenario if someone were to stop that match. I was in good hands, and I trusted the two people in there, and I will always trust them, and always be thankful for them. All three of them, The Rock, Cena, and Chioda as well. They all protected me, they all looked at me, and they all allowed me to do what I needed to do to make that whole situation a success,

The Miz explained.

The Match’s Place in WWE History and Its Lasting Impact

The WrestleMania 27 championship match remains a significant moment in WWE history, not only for its high-profile participants but also because of the severe injury The Miz sustained and overcame. His trust in fellow performers and officials highlights the risks wrestlers face and the importance of teamwork in managing in-ring injuries. Moving forward, this incident underscores the critical balance between entertainment and safety in professional wrestling events.
