The Undertaker has shared his thoughts on WWE’s choice to conclude his WrestleMania streak in 2014, after an unprecedented 21-0 record at the event. This WrestleMania streak ending remains one of the most surprising moments in WWE history, as Brock Lesnar handed The Undertaker his first loss at WrestleMania 30.
Why the Streak Was Ended Despite Its Legendary Status
During a recent episode of Six Feet Under, a listener expressed that The Undertaker should have continued his undefeated streak to 25-0, marking a quarter-century of victories. While The Undertaker acknowledged this viewpoint, he explained that the decision was not his to make and that he had to
make the best of the hand that was dealt
to him.
He stated,
“It could have been a record that lasted forever. I mean, 21-0 may last forever but I think the general consensus (was) nobody wanted it.”
He further noted the legend and importance of the streak but clarified that the choice to end it was out of his hands.
“People always ask me ‘why did you do it?’ I ain’t really have a choice. Yeah I guess I did have a choice I didn’t have to do it but then what happens? Me and Brock are having to shoot at WrestleMania? It wouldn’t have been good.”
He added,
You have to look at this business in a sense of there’s a lot of people that probably didn’t want to put me over to get me into that position and they did it. It’s just kind of the way it works, it wasn’t my decision so I had to make the best of the hand that was dealt me.
Additional WrestleMania Defeats and Lasting Impact
Following that historic loss to Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 30, The Undertaker suffered only one more defeat on the WrestleMania stage, falling to Roman Reigns three years later at WrestleMania 33. Despite these losses, The Undertaker’s streak remains a defining part of his legacy and a landmark in the history of WWE.
The end of the streak marked a significant shift in WWE’s storytelling and the careers of those involved, including Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns, both of whom gained greater prominence afterward.
The WrestleMania Streak Ending and Its Legacy
The decision to end The Undertaker’s streak at 21-0 continues to provoke strong reactions among fans and industry insiders alike, as many wished to see the record extend further. However, the reasoning from The Undertaker highlights the complexities and pressures behind wrestling storylines and booking decisions, revealing how much control wrestlers may sometimes lack over their own careers.
Looking ahead, the WrestleMania streak ending is likely to remain a pivotal chapter in WWE history, symbolizing the fragile balance between maintaining legendary status and evolving the narrative in professional wrestling.
