Tiffany Stratton has disclosed the reason behind the sudden cancellation of her original WWE character during her time in NXT. This revelation offers insight into the creative decisions that altered her wrestling persona after her injury in early 2023.
Since her debut in 2021, Stratton quickly gained attention on NXT, standing out through 2022 and 2023 before achieving major success on WWE’s main roster, where she presently holds the WWE Women’s Championship on SmackDown. Initially, Stratton portrayed a heel character modeled as a wealthy “daddy’s little rich girl.” However, this character was dropped following her return from injury.
The Inspiration and Cancellation of the Original Character
The original persona drew inspiration from characters like Sharpay Evans from High School Musical and the socialite Paris Hilton. Despite its distinctiveness, the gimmick was ultimately scrapped after conversations with Shawn Michaels, a key WWE figure overseeing NXT storylines. Stratton revealed the main problem was the lack of a compelling storyline payoff to fully develop the character.
Shawn was like, ‘we don’t have a daddy for you. We don’t really have a payoff.’ So I think we kind of just need to scrap it.

Stratton’s Rise After Character Shift
After the character was dropped, Stratton’s career momentum did not stall. She captured the NXT Women’s Championship in 2023 before eventually losing it to Becky Lynch in September. Moving onto WWE’s main roster, Stratton continued as a villainous figure, securing the women’s Money in the Bank contract and then winning the WWE Women’s Championship within her first year on SmackDown. Shortly after these achievements, she transitioned into a babyface role, marking a new chapter in her professional persona.
The Impact of the Character Change on Stratton’s Career
The decision to discard her initial character removed a storyline that lacked direction, allowing Stratton to evolve into a more impactful competitor in WWE. Her success after this shift underscores the importance of having a strong narrative foundation for wrestling characters. As she now champions SmackDown’s women’s division, her journey reflects how adapting creative approaches can rejuvenate a wrestler’s trajectory and connect better with the audience.
