Tony Khan Urged to Break Up AEW Faction to Boost Kyle Fletcher

Published:

A wrestling veteran recently advised that a major AEW faction be broken up to better highlight Kyle Fletcher’s talents. Fletcher, known as The Protostar, has been a member of the Don Callis Family for nearly a year. He is scheduled to challenge Hangman Page for the AEW World Championship at the upcoming All Out event. This recommendation comes amid growing recognition of Fletcher’s transformation within AEW.

Over the past year, Kyle Fletcher has evolved from a relatively unnoticed tag team wrestler into a standout main event contender. While Fletcher’s skill and drive are largely responsible for his rise, Don Callis’ involvement has also played a pivotal role. The Don Callis Family stable consists of several established names, including the current AEW TNT Champion, who share the faction’s spotlight.

On the wrestling podcast Busted Open After Dark, Bully Ray voiced his opinion that Tony Khan should consider splitting Kyle Fletcher and Don Callis from the rest of their stable. In his view, this change would help maximize Fletcher’s individual potential and recognition.

“When Fletcher got on the stick, the people were all over him tonight, so I was like, alright, this is really good because Fletcher is generating his own boos, which got me thinking again. Later in the show, we saw Kyle Fletcher, Don Callis and Tony Schiavone outside of the arena, so I got to thinking maybe they’re better off with just having Callis with Fletcher,” he said. —Bully Ray, Wrestling Veteran

Kyle Fletcher Reflects on Comparisons to Randy Orton and His Unique Path

Beyond his in-ring achievements, Kyle Fletcher has experienced comparisons to WWE star Randy Orton, particularly after adopting visual changes following his heel turn. Despite this, Fletcher stressed his desire to carve out his own identity rather than imitate another wrestler.

During an interview on The Masked Man Show, Fletcher discussed the early comparisons and clarified his approach to building his persona within AEW.

“Then that’s when I started getting the Randy Orton (comparisons). And I was like, okay, that’s a nice comparison, but I never want to be a copy of someone else. I want to be my own person,” he said. —Kyle Fletcher, AEW TNT Champion

Implications for AEW and Kyle Fletcher’s Future

Separating Kyle Fletcher and Don Callis from the larger faction could allow Fletcher to further develop as a solo talent, potentially elevating his status ahead of his championship match. With Tony Khan overseeing AEW’s creative direction, a faction breakup might provide fresh narratives and highlight Fletcher’s rapid ascent within the company. Fans and insiders alike will watch closely to see how The Protostar’s career evolves following All Out.
