Tony Khan Unlikely to Welcome Andrade Back to AEW After WWE Exit

Published:

After Andrade El Idolo’s unexpected departure from WWE, speculation about a possible return to All Elite Wrestling has surged across social media. However, insider Dave Meltzer expressed doubts about Tony Khan’s willingness to re-sign Andrade, casting uncertainty over the former Los Ingobernables member’s AEW prospects.

The wrestling community remains unsettled by Andrade’s sudden WWE exit, reportedly linked to a Wellness Policy violation that led to his suspension. This development has fueled rumors about whether the former NXT Champion might rejoin AEW, though prevailing reports suggest that the wrestling promotion’s leadership may be hesitant.

Dave Meltzer discussed the situation on the Wrestling Observer Radio, emphasizing Tony Khan’s potential reluctance to bring back ex-WWE stars who appear likely to return to WWE eventually. Meltzer highlighted Andrade’s strong wrestling skills but noted that AEW currently prefers talent who are more cooperative and committed to the company’s long-term vision.

“Would AEW take him or not? I don’t know what Tony’s gonna do. He tried to leave on good terms, he just decided he wasn’t gonna go back, he went back like they all do. … He’s a good wrestler and all, but I think at this point if I’m AEW, I am not really fond of using ex-WWE guys who have already proven to you that they want to go back to WWE, and they’re not going to be happy there. He caused problems [in AEW], and he wasn’t the most willing and cooperative person there, and… he’s good, really good, but they got guys way better than him that are a lot more cooperative than him,” Dave Meltzer said. —Dave Meltzer, Wrestling Journalist

Reviewing Andrade’s Final AEW Appearance

Andrade’s last match in AEW took place at Worlds End 2023, where he faced Miro, known as Rusev in WWE. In a high-profile singles bout, Andrade was defeated after his manager, CJ Perry, betrayed him by siding with her husband Miro. Despite this dramatic loss, Tony Khan confirmed during the post-event media gathering that Andrade’s contract would expire at the end of 2023, with both parties reportedly parting amicably.

Future Prospects and the Impact of Andrade’s WWE Exit

The potential return of Andrade El Idolo to AEW remains uncertain, especially as Tony Khan appears to prioritize wrestlers who demonstrate loyalty and cooperation. Andrade’s past challenges with the company, combined with the preference for talent committed to AEW’s goals, suggest that his path back may be blocked. The promotion currently boasts a roster filled with dependable athletes, which further complicates Andrade’s chances.

Looking ahead, Andrade’s career trajectory remains unclear as fans and insiders wait to see whether he will find a new home inside or outside of AEW. His departure from WWE and the hesitance from AEW leadership highlight the challenges facing wrestlers navigating between major promotions while balancing personal ambitions and professional relationships.
