Tony Khan Hints Chris Jericho’s AEW Return Could Happen Soon

Published:

During a recent radio interview, Tony Khan shared his strong desire to see Chris Jericho return to AEW, signaling that it could happen soon. With Jericho’s AEW contract set to expire later this year and rumors swirling about a possible WWE return, Khan emphasized the immense respect he holds for Jericho and his importance to the promotion’s history.

Khan Reflects on Jericho’s Impact and Future Possibilities

In his conversation with The Torg and Elliott Show, Khan highlighted Jericho’s foundational role in AEW, describing him as a pivotal figure since the company’s inception. Khan stated,

“Well, Chris Jericho’s been here since the very beginning. And I have so much great respect for Chris Jericho. I do really have to say I would love to have Chris Jericho in AEW any time,”

and went on to affirm,

“Yeah, we absolutely want Chris Jericho back in AEW, and hopefully soon. He’s been great with us and he’s been with us since the very first event. The very first AEW World Champion. And Chris is a huge part of the history of AEW and still in great shape, still a great wrestler.”

Khan Teases Fans to Stay Tuned for Jericho’s Return

When asked more directly about Jericho’s return, Khan chose to keep details under wraps, encouraging fans to remain engaged with AEW programming. He noted,

“Well, I think you got to stay tuned to the show,”

and added,

“That’s one of the reasons you watch the wrestling show is to see the returns, and we just talked at the beginning of the call about, you know, keeping secrets and stuff like that, so I think stay tuned.”

Jericho’s Current Status and Comments on WWE Rumors

Chris Jericho has been absent from AEW TV since taking a break in April, stepping away during a period marked by negative crowd reactions. His contract expires at the end of the year. Although Jericho’s most recent WWE appearance was in 2018, he addressed the possibility of returning to WWE in an interview with the Daily Mail. He said,

“So I’m not going anywhere for a while, I’m still with AEW for right now. Would I go back to WWE? I wouldn’t be opposed to it. We just have to see what happens,”

and expressed optimism about competition in wrestling by adding,

“But the best thing that can happen is that you have two great teams that you can play for, and that just makes everything bigger and more exciting.”

Significance of Jericho’s Potential Return for AEW

Jericho’s possible comeback holds substantial weight for AEW, given his status as the promotion’s first world champion and a key figure since its launch. His return could energize the roster and fanbase, reinforcing AEW’s position in the wrestling industry. As contract negotiations and future plans unfold, fans will likely watch AEW shows closely for any signs of Jericho’s reappearance, which could play a major role in upcoming storylines and events.
