Tony Khan, the President of All Elite Wrestling (AEW), has addressed criticism that AEW is not focused enough on storytelling in its programming. During an appearance on The Superstar Crossover podcast, Khan identified this perception as a major misunderstanding about the company’s creative approach.
He declared,
I think the stories in AEW have been as strong as ever,
emphasizing that the promotion has maintained solid narrative elements alongside its in-ring action. Khan acknowledged the widely shared view on the athleticism in AEW, stating,
The wrestling people will say AEW is great. I think a lot of people would concede the action and wrestling — the athletic action is absolutely fantastic. Everyone agrees.
Khan Rejects the Notion That AEW Lacks Compelling Narratives
Addressing claims about a shortage of storytelling within AEW, Khan firmly disagreed, calling the notion untrue and deceptive. He said,
There’s people that would say that there’s a lack, and I don’t agree with this — I think it’s untrue — of stories in AEW,
and added,
I don’t think that’s true at all, and it’s really, I think, not only a misconception, but a falsehood that people spread.
Context: AEW’s Ongoing Event Schedule
Khan’s defense of AEW’s storytelling comes as the company prepares for several major summer wrestling events, including the AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door show scheduled for later this month, followed by the All Out event in September. These highlight the promotion’s ongoing commitment to combining athletic competition with engaging storylines that keep viewers invested.
