AEW President Tony Khan recently revealed that the idea of women headlining an AEW pay-per-view is under real consideration, though it hinges on finding the perfect moment and match. His remarks about the women’s division come at a time when fans are eager for top female stars to take the spotlight at AEW’s biggest events.
AEW’s Efforts to Elevate Women’s Wrestling
According to Tony Khan, the company has actively been working toward giving its women’s division greater visibility and prominence. The AEW Women’s World Tag Team Championship was introduced as part of these efforts, marking a significant step in the promotion’s ongoing push for women’s wrestling. At the recent Worlds End pay-per-view, the tag team known as The Babes of Wrath successfully defended their titles, reflecting the growing role of women in AEW’s roster.
Even though male wrestlers often headline major events, AEW’s focus on expanding its women’s division has been noticeable in the last two years. Fan anticipation reached high levels recently, with many hoping to see Mercedes Mone and Toni Storm—regarded as two of AEW’s biggest female stars—close out the All In: Texas pay-per-view earlier this year due to their escalating rivalry and popularity.

Tony Khan Sets Expectations for a Women’s Main Event
Speaking candidly on The Takedown, Tony Khan shared that while a women’s match has not yet been the final act at an AEW pay-per-view, it remains a realistic and attractive goal. He highlighted the recent Mercedes Mone vs. Toni Storm clash as a match worthy of main event status due to the caliber of performance and its reception.
“It’s very potentially possible. It has to be the right match, the right situation, at the right time. If there were ever two that could do it, it would be the two you mentioned (referring to Mercedes Mone and Toni Storm). But there’s a bunch of other candidates for it as well. It was a fantastic match. They had it All In: Texas. That was a main-event-caliber match. It really felt that way. It was presented as one of the main matches on the card,”

Spotlight on New Women’s Tag Team Additions
AEW’s roster has recently welcomed new talent in the form of Hyan and Maya World, two competitors who have regularly appeared on AEW television in recent months and gained attention through their performances. Despite early challenges and losses, their efforts culminated in Tony Khan officially announcing that the pair is now “All Elite” following their showcase at Worlds End.
During a media appearance after the event, Khan spoke highly of the tag team’s development, spirit, and the respect they’ve earned backstage.
“I think they’ve been doing a fantastic job. Hyan and Maya World came in and delivered time after time. They’ve been more competitive and have put on great matches. Everyone in the locker room respects them. They bring something great to the roster,”
