Ex-WWE Writer Claims Tony Khan Pays Promotions for Mercedes Mone Titles

Published:

A former WWE head writer recently alleged that Tony Khan pays various wrestling promotions to have their titles awarded to Mercedes Mone. The claim suggests that the payments serve as incentives for promotions to put championship belts on Mone. This assertion was made amidst Mone’s growing collection of championship titles across multiple organizations.

Mercedes Mone currently holds the AEW TBS Championship, which she has defended for over 450 days, along with the Owen Hart Foundation belt and seven additional titles from various promotions like CMLL and RevPro. Vince Russo, the veteran wrestling writer, expressed his opinion that Tony Khan, AEW’s CEO, might be financially compensating these promotions for the visibility Mone gains by holding their championships.

On the Coach & Bro podcast, Vince Russo elaborated on this perspective, speculating about the financial dealings behind Mone’s multiple titles:

“Coach, think about this, because you know this is happening. Whatever belt she is getting from whatever outside organization, how much is Tony Khan paying that organization for? I bet you he is paying 100 grand at least to put one of those on her. I guarantee you,” Russo said.

Mercedes Mone Aiming to Surpass a Wrestling Legend’s Record

Mercedes Mone recently added the Discovery Wrestling women’s title from the UK to her extensive list of championships. She also successfully defended her AEW TBS Championship at Forbidden Door 2025, bringing her total number of belts to nine. On a recent episode of Dynamite, Mone held a championship celebration segment highlighting her achievements.

During the celebration, Mone acknowledged the longstanding record held by Ultimo Dragon, a former WWE star and wrestling veteran, who once held ten titles simultaneously. Mone boldly declared her intention to break this record by accumulating more than ten championship belts:

“I’m a history maker. A record breaker. Ultimo Dragon had 10 titles—and I am going to smash that record. So to any woman out there with a title—I’m coming for you. And you’re going to love the taste of Mone,” Mercedes stated.

Fans are left anticipating if Mercedes Mone will indeed secure additional titles and eclipse Ultimo Dragon’s notable record in professional wrestling.
