Since launching AEW in 2019, company President Tony Khan has consistently concentrated on tracking television ratings and ticket sales for the wrestling promotion. Recently, during an appearance on Q101, Khan shared that his obsession goes beyond general viewership totals—he closely monitors minute-by-minute audience numbers, especially for AEW Dynamite, underlining his deep commitment to the brand’s performance.
Minute-by-Minute Ratings Shape Programming Strategy
Khan emphasized his determination to maintain high-quality wrestling content for fans, particularly through AEW Collision. He stated,
“I’m obsessed with ‘Collision’ being a great wrestling show that the wrestling fans love … I don’t want there to ever be a perception like even though I know some fans think that ‘Oh I can watch ‘Dynamite’ and I’ll get everything,’ that’s not the case,”
reflecting his desire to distinguish each AEW program’s unique appeal. He further added,
“I hope for ‘Collision,’ people spread that virus with it and say like, ‘I love wrestling and you should watch this because they put so much great wrestling on’ … I think ‘Dynamite’ is that, but with that obsession of knowing that weeknight, prime time, minute by minute viewership is balanced with the great wrestling because there’s some of the best wrestling and best wrestling matches are on ‘Dynamite.’”

Recent Surge in AEW Dynamite and Collision Ratings
AEW Dynamite has recently experienced a ratings boost, with its last two episodes marking the highest audience numbers since September, each drawing over 650,000 viewers. Similarly, AEW Collision saw a significant increase in viewership, with the January 31 episode setting a record as the most-watched show since Nielsen introduced their Big Date + Panel measurement system. Last week’s broadcast also recorded AEW Collision’s second-best rating of the year.
Implications for AEW’s Future and Fan Engagement
Khan’s vigilant monitoring of detailed ratings data highlights his ambition to elevate AEW’s status within the wrestling industry by balancing fan enjoyment with measurable success. This attentive approach is likely to influence both programming decisions and promotional strategies as AEW seeks to sustain momentum and expand its audience. The upward trend in ratings for Dynamite and Collision indicates growing fan interest, which could shape AEW’s trajectory in the competitive wrestling market.
