Tony Khan has announced the matchups for the ROH Women’s Pure Tournament, which officially begins tonight at the Death Before Dishonor event. The competition will feature eight female wrestlers vying to become the inaugural ROH Women’s Pure Champion, marking a significant milestone for the women’s division in Ring of Honor.
Quarterfinal Matchups Set for the Upcoming Tournament
The first round will see Queen Aminata face off against Taya Valkyrie, with the winner moving forward to challenge the victor of the Deonna Purrazzo versus Trish Adora matchup. On the opposite side of the bracket, Billie Starkz is scheduled to compete against CMLL’s Olympia, while Serena Deeb will take on Yuka Sakazaki. While the starting matches are confirmed, the date for the tournament final has not yet been announced.
Background and Delays Leading to Tonight’s Tournament Kickoff
The tournament was initially announced in April to crown the first-ever ROH Women’s Pure Champion, but several injuries among the AEW and ROH women’s rosters delayed the event. Tony Khan decided to postpone the tournament from its original target date at Supercard of Honor in May to ensure a competitive lineup of participants. Early announcements included Purrazzo, Aminata, Valkyrie, Deeb, and Leila Grey, but the latter did not appear in the finalized brackets.
