Tony Khan Declines Comment Amid IATSE Union Protests at AEW Event

Published:

Tony Khan chose not to respond to questions regarding union protests taking place outside the 2300 Arena, where All Elite Wrestling (AEW) recently started a multi-event residency. The protests are connected to concerns from the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees Local 8 (IATSE 8) over compensation disputes.

AEW began its seven-event residency on Wednesday night in Philadelphia’s 2300 Arena. Outside the venue, IATSE 8 members organized a protest, claiming that the wages offered for the upcoming shows did not match industry standards. In addition to picketing, the union initiated a social media campaign calling on fans to boycott the events in support of the workers’ demands.

Tony Khan’s Response to the Protest Questions

During a media call for ROH’s Death Before Dishonor event, Tony Khan was directly asked about the ongoing union protests and the boycott movement. Although it was noted that the conflict might be primarily between the union and the venue, Khan was questioned about his position or any comments regarding AEW’s role. Khan declined to provide any statement and immediately moved on.

No, I don’t [have any comment],

Khan said. Thank you.

AEW Clarifies Its Position on the Dispute

AEW released a statement the same evening addressing the protests. The organization asserted that it is paying appropriate wages to its local staff and emphasized that the current dispute is between the union and the 2300 Arena itself, rather than AEW. The statement also highlighted AEW’s history of maintaining a positive relationship with IATSE Local 8 during other Philadelphia events.

All Elite Wrestling has paid, and will continue to pay, the prevailing wages to all locals used as part of our residency at the venue and has maintained a great relationship with IATSE Local 8 for previous events held at other venues in Philadelphia,

an AEW spokesperson told POST Wrestling.

Any current demonstrations being held are between 2300 Arena and IATSE Local 8.

Context of the Dispute and Upcoming Events at 2300 Arena

The headquarters of IATSE Local 8 is situated at 2401 S Swanson Street, directly across from the 2300 Arena. This proximity underscores the tension as both the union and venue are central to the ongoing disagreement. Despite the protests, 2300 Arena is scheduled to host six additional AEW and ROH events within the next three weeks, raising questions about how the dispute may affect future shows and fan attendance.
