Tony Khan Unveils New AEW Women’s Tag Team Championship

Published:

AEW President Tony Khan has officially revealed the creation of a new AEW Women’s Tag Team Championship, with plans to name the first champions later this year. This announcement was made during a recent episode of AEW Dynamite, following an initial teaser at AEW All Out.

Announcement of New Women’s Tag Titles on Dynamite

During the latest AEW Dynamite, Tony Khan acknowledged AEW’s growing women’s division and expressed his belief that introducing new championships would further strengthen this roster. He stated it was time to add new titles to highlight the talent and competition among the women wrestlers.

Khan presented the new AEW Women’s Tag Team Championship belts, which feature the same design as the men’s Tag Team Championship but include the word “Women’s” above “Tag Team” on the faceplate. Renee Paquette formally revealed the championship belts to the crowd in attendance.

Context Within AEW’s Women’s Division

This new championship comes shortly after AEW crowned a new Women’s World Champion at All Out, where Kris Statlander defeated Toni Storm, Jamie Hayter, and Thekla to claim the title. The introduction of a tag team championship adds a new dynamic for tag teams within the division and offers additional opportunities for female wrestlers to showcase their skills.

Significance and Future Expectations

The introduction of the AEW Women’s Tag Team Championship represents a significant step for the promotion’s commitment to expanding and promoting its women’s division. Naming the inaugural champions later this year will build anticipation and set the stage for new rivalries and storylines. This move is expected to generate increased interest and provide a greater platform for female talent within AEW.
