Adam Joseph Scherr (born September 6, 1983) is an American professional wrestler, strongman and actor. As a wrestler, he is best known for his tenures in WWE where he performed under the ring name Braun Strowman. Before professional wrestling, Scherr began his strongman career in 2010 when he won the NAS Amateur National Championships in 2011, and the Arnold Amateur Strongman Championships in 2012. After his retirement from strongman athletics, Scherr transitioned into professional wrestling and signed a contract with WWE in 2013; he wrestled on its NXT developmental brand under the name Braun Strowman.

Adam Joseph Scherr, known professionally as Braun Strowman, was born on September 6, 1983, in Sherrills Ford, North Carolina. He is the son of Rick “Crusher” Scherr, a celebrated slow-pitch softball player, and Sara. Strowman has a younger sister named Hannah. Growing up, he was active in sports, participating in football, track and field, and wrestling during his time at Bandys High School. He experienced a significant growth spurt in high school, reaching 6 feet 5 inches by graduation.

After graduating in 2001, Strowman spent a couple of years working various jobs before enrolling in community college in 2003. He played semi-professional football for the Hickory Hornets and began competing in amateur strongman competitions in the late 2000s, which laid the groundwork for his future career in professional wrestling.

Path to WWE

Strowman’s strongman career began in earnest when he won the NAS Amateur National Championships in 2011, followed by the Arnold Amateur Strongman Championships in 2012.
