Dragon Lee Bio

Emmanuel Muñoz González, professionally known as Dragon Lee, is a Mexican professional wrestler born on May 15, 1995, in Tala, Jalisco, Mexico. Standing 5 feet 7 inches tall and competing at a listed weight of around 75 kilograms, he has built a reputation as one of the most exciting high-flying performers in lucha libre. As of December 2022, he is signed to WWE, where he performs on the Raw brand as a member of the Latino World Order.

A second-generation wrestler, Dragon Lee first rose to fame in Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL), where he is a two-time CMLL World Lightweight Champion and a one-time CMLL World Welterweight Champion. He has also held the ROH World Television Championship and the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship, establishing himself as a global star across Mexico, the United States, and Japan.

Early Life and Background

Emmanuel Muñoz González was born in the small city of Tala, in the Mexican state of Jalisco, into one of lucha libre’s most recognizable wrestling families. His father, Arturo Muñoz, performed under several ring names throughout his career, including La Bestia del Ring, Toro Blanco, Poder Boriqua, Poder Mexico, and Comandante Pierroth. Growing up around the gym, Dragon Lee was trained not only by his father but also by his uncles, who wrestled as Franco Columbo, Pit Bull I, and Pit Bull II.

At the age of 14, his father brought him to Mexico City to begin training in amateur wrestling, and he also competed in boxing as a young athlete. During his first amateur match, he performed a suplex on his opponent and was disqualified, an experience that pushed him toward professional lucha libre. He has two older brothers who also became professional wrestlers: William, who performs as Rush, and Carlos, the original wrestler to use the Dragon Lee mask and character before later adopting the ring name Dralístico.

Path to Professional Wrestling

Dragon Lee began training in Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre’s gym in 2013, working toward a contract to become a regular performer for the promotion. He made his first public appearance as Dragon Lee on November 20, 2013, winning the beginners category of CMLL’s annual bodybuilding contest. His official in-ring debut came on January 1, 2014, as part of CMLL’s La Copa Junior tournament, where he was eliminated in the third spot by Cachorro.

He was grouped with CMLL’s Generación 2014, a class of rookies that included Black Panther, Espiritu Negro, Flyer, Hechicero, and Star Jr. Later that year, he teamed with his older brother Rush in the Torneo Gran Alternativa, advancing to the semi-finals before being eliminated. By the end of 2014, he had qualified for the En Busca de un Ídolo tournament and appeared at CMLL’s 81st Anniversary Show, signaling his rapid rise within the promotion.

Dragon Lee Career

Early Career (2014–2015)

Dragon Lee’s first major storyline in CMLL came in early 2015, when he began a long-running rivalry with the masked Japanese wrestler Kamaitachi. The feud culminated on March 20 at the Homenaje a Dos Leyendas show, where Dragon Lee defeated Kamaitachi two falls to one in a Lucha de Apuestas, forcing his rival to unmask. The victory established Dragon Lee as a top tecnico in CMLL.

On April 5, 2015, he captured his first professional championship by defeating Virus for the CMLL World Lightweight Championship. He later won the first round of the prestigious 2015 Leyenda de Plata torneo cibernetico, eliminating wrestlers such as Místico and Volador Jr. before losing to Negro Casas in the finals. These early accomplishments cemented his status as a breakout star of his generation.

CMLL Breakthrough (2015–2019)

Dragon Lee’s biggest moments in CMLL came in 2016, when he made his Japanese debut during the Fantastica Mania 2016 tour. After successfully defending the CMLL World Lightweight Championship against Virus, he was attacked by Kamaitachi, who then took the title. Dragon Lee regained the championship in a rematch on March 4, 2016. Later that summer, he became involved in a heated rivalry with La Máscara, which was rooted in a wider Muñoz family feud.

On September 2, 2016, at CMLL’s 83rd Anniversary Show, Dragon Lee defeated La Máscara in a Mask vs. Mask match, winning the second mask of his career and solidifying his position as one of CMLL’s most popular performers. He also won the CMLL World Welterweight Championship during this period. However, on September 27, 2019, CMLL announced that both Dragon Lee and Rush had been fired for not following programming guidelines, ending his original run with the promotion.

Ring of Honor (2016–2021)

Dragon Lee made his Ring of Honor debut on September 30, 2016, at All Star Extravaganza VIII, defeating Kamaitachi. He continued working with ROH through the end of the decade, building a reputation for hard-hitting matches against competitors like Will Ospreay and Marty Scurll. On December 13, 2019, at Final Battle, he defeated Shane Taylor to win the ROH World Television Championship.

Shortly after, he joined his brother Rush, Amy Rose, and Kenny King to form the faction La Faccion Ingobernable, turning heel and adopting a more aggressive wrestling style. On February 10, he and Kenny King defeated Jay Lethal and Jonathan Gresham to win the ROH World Tag Team Championship, making him a dual champion. Both reigns ended at ROH’s 19th Anniversary Show due to an ear injury, and on November 21, 2021, he lost the Television title to Dalton Castle.

New Japan Pro-Wrestling (2017–2020)

Dragon Lee made a surprise return to NJPW on January 5, 2017, attacking Hiromu Takahashi and Tetsuya Naito. He challenged Takahashi for the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship at The New Beginning in Osaka that February but was unsuccessful. He competed in the 2017 and 2018 Best of the Super Juniors tournaments, gaining respect for his performances against the best junior heavyweights in the world.

On April 6, 2019, at the G1 Supercard, Dragon Lee defeated Taiji Ishimori and Bandido in a triple threat match to win the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship, becoming only the third Mexican to hold the title. In late 2019, he changed his ring name to Ryu Lee, and on January 5, 2020, he teamed with Takahashi to defeat Jyushin Thunder Liger in Liger’s retirement match at Wrestle Kingdom 14.

WWE Era (2022–Present)

On December 28, 2022, after defeating FTR for the AAA World Tag Team Championship alongside his brother Dralístico, Dragon Lee announced he had signed with WWE. He debuted in NXT in 2023, quickly engaging in a feud with NXT North American Champion Dominik Mysterio. After several unsuccessful title challenges, Lee finally defeated Mysterio at NXT Deadline in December 2023 to win the NXT North American Championship, marking his first title in WWE.

He held the title for 31 days, losing it to Oba Femi in January 2024. After being drafted to Raw in the 2024 WWE Draft as a member of the Latino World Order, Lee won the WWE Speed Championship in November 2024, defeating Andrade in the tournament final. He held the title until May 2025, when he lost it to El Grande Americano. On October 20, he and AJ Styles won the World Tag Team Championship by defeating Finn Bálor and JD McDonagh of The Judgment Day, giving Lee his first individual championship reign on the main roster.

Style and Strengths

Dragon Lee wrestles a high-risk, high-flying style of lucha libre, often executing spectacular moves from the top rope or from inside the ring to the outside. His willingness to take greater risks than most of his peers has earned him the nickname El Niño Maravilla, or The Boy Wonder. His signature finishing move, the Dragon Driver, also known as the Phoenix-Plex, is a bridging package fallaway powerbomb that requires tremendous trust between him and his opponent.

Notable Events and Milestones

Among his most memorable moments are his Mask vs. Mask victories over Kamaitachi and La Máscara, his historic IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship win at the G1 Supercard, and his NXT North American Championship victory at NXT Deadline.
