Evil Uno Bio

Nicolas Dansereau, better known by the ring name Evil Uno, is a Canadian professional wrestler born on July 20, 1987, in Gatineau, Quebec. He is the co-founder of Mystery Wrestling and is signed to All Elite Wrestling, where he performs as a member of The Dark Order. Before adopting his current persona, Dansereau wrestled for years as Player Uno, teaming with Stu Grayson as the celebrated tag team the Super Smash Brothers.

Across his career, Dansereau has competed throughout the North American independent scene, building a reputation as a creative and technically sound performer. He has held tag team gold in multiple promotions and remains an active competitor on the AEW roster.

Early Life and Background

Nicolas Dansereau was born and raised in Gatineau, Quebec, in Canada. He first stepped into a professional wrestling ring at the age of 14, an unusually early start that helped shape his in-ring foundation. During those first appearances, he wrestled under the name El PoPo, a Spanish-flavored moniker chosen before he had any plan to learn the language.

Dansereau has spoken publicly about how the name change came about. On an episode of Colt Cabana’s podcast The Art of Wrestling, he explained that the decision came when another wrestler known as El Generico wanted to be called Player 1. Dansereau flipped the idea and selected Uno, intending to study Spanish later. That playful connection to gaming culture would eventually inspire one of the most distinctive gimmicks in independent wrestling.

Outside of wrestling, Dansereau has worked as a web specialist for the Canadian federal government. He is married and has publicly referred to his wife as Mrs. Uno.

Path to Professional Wrestling

Dansereau’s formal path into professional wrestling began with his debut at 14, which led to appearances across the Canadian independent scene. He eventually made his way to International Wrestling Syndicate, a respected Canadian promotion. There, he teamed with a performer known as Stupefied to form the Super Smash Brothers, a partnership that would define much of his career.

The Super Smash Brothers quickly built a following in International Wrestling Syndicate, winning the IWS Tag Team Championship together. Dansereau also found singles success in the promotion, capturing the IWS Canadian Championship. He remained with International Wrestling Syndicate until the promotion folded on October 9, 2010.

The team’s video-game-themed gimmick, which borrowed heavily from Nintendo culture, gave them a memorable identity that translated well to other independent promotions across North America. It was during this period that Dansereau began shaping the persona of Player Uno, complete with themed attire and in-ring mannerisms inspired by classic gaming.

Evil Uno Career

Early Career (2004-2008)

Dansereau began his professional career in 2004 and quickly moved between Canadian independents before settling into International Wrestling Syndicate. His pairing with Stupefied as the Super Smash Brothers proved to be the launchpad for his career, and the team captured the IWS Tag Team Championship during this stretch.

In 2007, the Super Smash Brothers expanded into the Philadelphia-based promotion Chikara, where they continued to gain recognition. They won the Chikara Campeones de Parejas from the team Incoherence, consisting of Delirious and Hallowicked, at Laying in the Gutters, Looking at the Stars on September 21, 2008. The reign lasted about a month before they dropped the titles to The Osirian Portal.

Chikara (2007-2010)

Dansereau’s Chikara run was where the Player Uno character fully blossomed. Basing his gimmick, moveset, and attire on video games for the NES and SNES consoles, he became a fan favorite. His signature pants featured an NES controller design on one side, and he would theatrically pause in the ring when struck in a specific spot.

Despite a long losing streak in 2009, which included a loss against Player Dos for the Young Lions Cup, Dansereau closed the year on a high note. He debuted a new finishing maneuver called The Joystick at the season finale, forcing Tim Donst to tap out. His final Chikara match came on October 24, 2010, when he and Dos, teaming with Sara Del Rey and Daizee Haze, lost their bout.

Pro Wrestling Guerrilla (2011-2013)

The Super Smash Brothers debuted in Pro Wrestling Guerrilla on September 10, 2011, suffering an opening loss to the RockNES Monsters. They followed that with a defeat against the American Wolves, but the team finally picked up a win on March 17, 2012, defeating the Young Bucks and the RockNES Monsters in a three-way match.

The breakout moment came on April 21, 2012, when the Super Smash Brothers won the 2012 Dynamite Duumvirate Tag Team Title Tournament. They then defeated the Young Bucks in a No Disqualification match on May 25 to capture the vacant PWG World Tag Team Championship. They defended the belts successfully at Threemendous III and again at Mystery Vortex, before losing them on January 12, 2013, to the Unbreakable F’n Machines. During that title loss, Dansereau suffered a dislocated shoulder following a suicide dive.

Ring of Honor (2009-2010, 2018)

The Super Smash Brothers made their Ring of Honor debut on May 8, 2009, in Boston, falling to Rhett Titus and Kenny King. They scored a notable upset at Death Before Dishonor VII Night 2 in Toronto, defeating former ROH World Tag Team Champions Kevin Steen and El Generico. Their 2009 run ended with a defeat on HDNet at the hands of Steen and Generico.

The team’s later Ring of Honor appearance came on May 11, 2018, at the War of the Worlds event in Toronto. There, the Super Smash Brothers faced the Young Bucks in a losing effort.

All Elite Wrestling (2019-Present)

Evil Uno and Stu Grayson made a surprise debut as members of The Dark Order at AEW Double or Nothing on May 25, 2019. The duo appeared at the conclusion of a match between Best Friends and Angélico and Jack Evans, when the lights went out and revealed them in the ring. After another blackout, masked henchmen surrounded the ring and the group attacked all four opponents before disappearing.

Dansereau has remained part of The Dark Order since that debut, continuing to perform in AEW under the Evil Uno ring name. The Dark Order has remained one of AEW’s most distinctive factions.

Style and Strengths

Dansereau built his early reputation on a creative, video-game-inspired persona that blended theatricality with solid in-ring fundamentals. His creative offense and willingness to take risks, including high-impact dives, have been hallmarks of his work, especially during his PWG run.

Key milestones include winning the PWG World Tag Team Championship in 2012, capturing the 2012 Dynamite Duumvirate Tag Team Title Tournament, and his surprise debut as a member of The Dark Order at AEW Double or Nothing in 2019.
