Jay White Bio
Jamie White, born on October 9, 1992, and better known by the ring name Jay White, is a New Zealand professional wrestler currently signed to All Elite Wrestling. White leads the Bullet Club sub-group Bang Bang Gang and has established himself as one of the most accomplished wrestlers of his generation. He is a former Unified World Trios Champion, holding both the AEW World Trios and ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Championships simultaneously.
Before joining AEW, White built a decorated career in New Japan Pro-Wrestling from 2015 to 2023. He achieved rare distinction as the fifth NJPW Triple Crown Champion and the first NJPW Grand Slam Champion in history. His championship portfolio includes the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship, IWGP Heavyweight Championship, IWGP Intercontinental Championship, and NEVER Openweight Championship.
Early Life and Background
Jay White was born in Auckland, New Zealand, and attended Orewa College. He holds dual citizenship in New Zealand and the Netherlands, with his grandfather having been born in the Netherlands. This Dutch heritage played a crucial role in his early wrestling career, as it allowed him to travel and train extensively in Europe.
White’s journey into professional wrestling began in 2011 when he was 19 years old. He won a contest sponsored by a New Zealand radio station that awarded him a trip to WrestleMania XXVII in Atlanta, Georgia. This experience sparked his passion for wrestling and set him on the path to pursue it as a career.
White began his formal wrestling training in early 2013 under The UK Kid at Varsity Pro Wrestling. He made his professional debut on February 19, 2013, competing for VPW as well as All Star Wrestling among other promotions. His Dutch passport enabled him to train in the United Kingdom, which was part of the European Union at that time.
Path to Professional Wrestling
In early 2014, White met New Japan Pro-Wrestling star Prince Devitt during a tag team match for VPW. Impressed by White’s potential, Devitt gave him his card and encouraged him to stay in touch. This connection proved pivotal, as NJPW officials soon contacted White with an opportunity to join their dojo as a young lion.
White met with Bad Luck Fale, Prince Devitt, and Shinsuke Nakamura in London to discuss the offer. After accepting the opportunity, he began finalizing his visa arrangements to leave for the NJPW Dojo in Japan. This marked the beginning of his journey from New Zealand independent wrestling to the global stage of Japanese professional wrestling.
White left for Japan on New Year’s Eve 2015 and began intensive training as a young lion upon his arrival. He made his NJPW debut on January 30, 2015, losing to Alex Shelley. As is customary for young lions in the NJPW system, White lost most of his matches in 2015, gaining valuable experience and honing his craft in the process.
Jay White Career
Early Career (2013-2016)
White spent his first year in NJPW as a young lion, competing primarily in preliminary matches. He began gaining more victories in 2016, including a significant match against then-reigning IWGP Intercontinental Champion Kenny Omega on March 27, 2016. Although he lost the non-title match, the opportunity showcased his potential against one of NJPW’s top stars.
His final NJPW match before his overseas excursion took place on June 19, 2016, at Dominion 6.19 in Osaka-jo Hall. White, alongside David Finlay and Juice Robinson, was defeated by Satoshi Kojima, Hiroyoshi Tenzan, and Manabu Nakanishi. The following week, White departed for the United States as part of NJPW’s international partnership program.
Ring of Honor and Revolution Pro Wrestling Breakthrough (2016-2017)
Upon arriving in the United States, White was initially based in New Jersey before moving to Detroit, where he lived with Alex Shelley. He made his Ring of Honor debut on June 25, 2016, defeating Kamaitachi. White quickly formed alliances with The Motor City Machine Guns and eventually joined the stable “Search and Destroy” alongside Jonathan Gresham and Lio Rush.
White also competed for Revolution Pro Wrestling in England, debuting on August 12, 2016, with a victory over Josh Bodom. Throughout 2016 and 2017, he competed in various high-profile matches for both ROH and RPW, including championship opportunities. On June 6, 2017, he received his biggest title opportunity to date, challenging Christopher Daniels for the ROH World Championship in a triple threat match.
New Japan Pro-Wrestling Return (2017-2018)
White returned to NJPW on November 5, 2017, at Power Struggle as the mysterious “Switchblade.” He immediately challenged Hiroshi Tanahashi to a match for the IWGP Intercontinental Championship at Wrestle Kingdom 12 in Tokyo Dome. Although White lost the championship match on January 4, 2018, he made an immediate impact by attacking Kenny Omega the following day.
On January 28, 2018, at The New Beginning in Sapporo, White defeated Kenny Omega to become the second IWGP United States Heavyweight Champion in history. He successfully defended the title three times against notable opponents including Hangman Page, David Finlay, and Punishment Martinez. His reign ended at 160 days when he lost to Juice Robinson at the G1 Special in San Francisco.
Bullet Club Leadership Era (2018-2023)
In October 2018, White orchestrated a major betrayal by attacking both Hiroshi Tanahashi and Kazuchika Okada. He aligned himself with Gedo, Okada’s former manager, and together they defected from the Chaos faction to join Bullet Club. White became the fourth leader of Bullet Club, one of professional wrestling’s most influential stables.
At New Year Dash!! in January 2019, White challenged Hiroshi Tanahashi for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship. He defeated Tanahashi at The New Beginning in Osaka to win his first world championship, though he lost the title back to Okada 54 days later at G1 Supercard. Despite this setback, White continued to ascend, winning the IWGP Intercontinental Championship in September 2019 and the NEVER Openweight Championship in May 2021.
On June 12, 2022, at Dominion 6.12 in Osaka-jo Hall, White defeated Kazuchika Okada to win the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship for the first time. He successfully defended the title against former Bullet Club stablemate Tama Tonga at Declaration of Power. White’s reign lasted 206 days until he lost the championship back to Okada at Wrestle Kingdom 17 on January 4, 2023.
All Elite Wrestling Era (2022-Present)
White made his AEW debut on February 9, 2022, on Dynamite, aiding Adam Cole and The Young Bucks. He officially signed with AEW in 2023 after leaving NJPW, reuniting with Juice Robinson to form Bullet Club Gold. The Gunns soon joined the stable, creating a formidable faction in AEW.
On January 17, 2024, White, Robinson, and The Gunns won the ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Championship. They successfully defended the title and later unified it with the AEW World Trios Championship at Dynasty in April 2024. The stable, now known as Bang Bang Gang, was eventually stripped of the Unified Trios Championship due to White suffering a foot injury.
White returned from injury in October 2024 and scored victories over “Hangman” Adam Page at both WrestleDream and Full Gear. He challenged Jon Moxley for the AEW World Championship at Worlds End in December 2024 but was unsuccessful. In early 2025, White formed an alliance with Cope and entered the Owen Hart Cup tournament, though he was forced to withdraw due to a hand injury requiring surgery.
Style and Strengths
Jay White is known for his methodical and calculating in-ring style, often targeting opponents’ vulnerabilities with precision. His signature move, the Blade Runner, has become one of the most devastating finishers in professional wrestling. White excels at psychological warfare and strategic planning, often outsmarting opponents rather than relying solely on physical dominance.
Notable Events and Milestones
White achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first NJPW Grand Slam Champion and only the fifth Triple Crown Champion in the company’s history. His betrayal of Chaos to join Bullet Club in 2018 remains one of the most memorable storyline turns in NJPW. White’s victory over Kenny Omega for the IWGP United States Championship established him as a main event player on the global stage.

White announced his entry into the Owen Hart Cup tournament on the March 26 episode of Dynamite, with the winner receiving an AEW World Championship match at All In.
