LA Knight Bio

Shaun Edward Ricker, known professionally as LA Knight, is an American professional wrestler and actor born on November 1, 1982, in Hagerstown, Maryland. He is currently signed to WWE and performs on the Raw brand under his popular ring name LA Knight. Standing 185 centimeters tall and weighing around 109 kilograms, he has built a reputation as one of the most charismatic performers in modern professional wrestling.

Ricker began wrestling on the independent circuit in 2003 and has competed under several ring names, including Deuce, Eli Drake, Slate Randall, and Max Dupri. After winning championships across multiple promotions, he joined WWE’s main roster in 2022 and became a breakout fan favorite the following year.

Early Life and Background

Shaun Edward Ricker was born on November 1, 1982, in Hagerstown, Maryland. He grew up in the area with two older siblings and first became interested in professional wrestling at the age of three. His early fascination with the sport helped shape the future direction of his career and personal identity.

Ricker attended North Hagerstown High School, where he participated in the school’s band and competed in track and field. These activities helped him develop the stage presence and physical conditioning that would later define his wrestling persona. After completing high school, he eventually moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, to pursue a career in the ring.

Path to Professional Wrestling

At the age of 20, Ricker began formal wrestling training on March 17, 2003, in Cincinnati. To support himself during this period, he worked at a lumber mill and at a Ruby Tuesday restaurant while learning the craft. Later that year, he began working regularly for the Heartland Wrestling Association under the ring name Deuce.

On November 9, 2004, Ricker captured the HWA Television Championship, marking his first notable title. He dropped the championship on January 4, 2005. In December 2010, he joined the National Wrestling Alliance-affiliated Championship Wrestling from Hollywood, where he teamed with Brian Cage to form The Natural Selection and win the NWA Heritage Tag Team Championship on December 8.

Ricker later feuded with Cage before challenging Adam Pearce for the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship on December 24. He also won the Percy Pringle III Cup and the CWFH Heritage Heavyweight Championship in tribute to his late friend. These accomplishments helped him catch the attention of WWE, which signed him in May 2013.

LA Knight Career

Early Career (2003–2014)

After being signed by WWE in 2013, Ricker was given the ring name Slate Randall and worked as an enhancement talent on NXT. He defeated Yoshi Tatsu in a dark match during an October 2013 taping, but lost subsequent matches against established names like Baron Corbin, Mojo Rawley, and Mason Ryan. WWE released him from his contract on August 1, 2014.

Following his release, Ricker returned to the independent circuit under the name Eli Drake. He wrestled for promotions including Full Impact Pro and World Wrestling Council, facing opponents like Kenny King and Carlito Colon. He also competed at a Maverick Pro Wrestling event in May 2019, continuing to build his in-ring reputation across the United States and Puerto Rico.

TNA / Impact Wrestling Era (2015–2019)

Eli Drake signed with TNA in 2015 and quickly became a featured performer. He joined forces with Drew Galloway and Micah to form The Rising before turning heel later that year. In January 2016, Drake won the Feast or Fired match and earned a future title opportunity.

On May 31, 2016, Drake cashed in his briefcase to defeat Bram and win the TNA King of the Mountain Championship, marking his first title in the promotion. Drake also captured the Impact World Tag Team Championship with Scott Steiner at Redemption in April 2017. He won a second Feast or Fired briefcase during his time in the promotion. After publicly criticizing the company, he was fired via email on April 7, 2019, ending his four-year tenure.
