Mark Briscoe Bio
Mark Pugh, better known by his ring name Mark Briscoe, is an American professional wrestler born on January 18, 1985, in Laurel, Delaware. He is signed to All Elite Wrestling (AEW), where he is a member of The Conglomeration stable and the current AEW TNT Champion in his first reign. He also makes appearances for AEW’s sister promotion Ring of Honor (ROH), where he built much of his legacy alongside his brother Jay Briscoe as the Briscoe Brothers. Over more than two decades in the wrestling business, Mark has held championships in ROH, Impact Wrestling, New Japan Pro-Wrestling, and Pro Wrestling Noah.
Standing 6 feet tall and weighing around 229 pounds, Mark Briscoe is widely regarded as one of the most accomplished tag team wrestlers of his generation. Between ROH, TNA, NJPW, and Noah, he has held 20 championships, all but one shared with Jay in either a traditional or six-man tag team format. In January 2022, the Briscoe Brothers were honored as inaugural inductees into the ROH Hall of Fame.
Early Life and Background
Mark Pugh was raised in Laurel, Delaware, in a family with deep ties to professional wrestling. His father, Mike Briscoe, known in the ring as Papa Briscoe, was himself a wrestler and later teamed with his sons in special attractions. Growing up in a working-class community in Sussex County, Mark and his older brother Jay were exposed to the wrestling business from a young age and began training alongside each other before they were teenagers.
The brothers quickly developed a reputation for toughness and natural charisma. Because both were underage when they began appearing on the independent circuit, Pennsylvania’s child labor laws occasionally shaped how they could be presented. At one early Combat Zone Wrestling event, both brothers wore masks and were identified as The Midnight Outlaws to get around the legal restrictions on competitors under 18.
Mark completed his early education in Laurel and balanced school with weekend bookings on the independent wrestling scene. The brothers’ youth, combined with their willingness to take punishment and learn on the job, helped them gain the attention of promoters throughout the Mid-Atlantic region in the early 2000s.
Path to Professional Wrestling
Mark Briscoe’s path into professional wrestling began in earnest on the independent circuit in 2000, when he was only 15 years old. Along with Jay, he debuted for Combat Zone Wrestling on January 20, 2001, at the Delaware Invasion event, teaming with Eddie Valentine in a losing effort against Trent Acid. The brothers advanced through CZW’s Best of the Best tournament that same year, with their second-round match against each other widely regarded as the breakout performance that helped launch their careers.
The Briscoes expanded their footprint quickly, working for Jersey All Pro Wrestling beginning in March 2001, and later for promotions across the East Coast. By 2002, they were drawing the attention of the newly formed Ring of Honor, where Mark was unable to compete on the first show due to age restrictions but soon established himself as a featured performer. Early exposure to demanding opponents like Samoa Joe, A.J. Styles, and the CZW locker room helped Mark develop the hard-hitting, high-flying style that became his trademark.
Mark Briscoe Career
Early Career (2001-2005)
Mark Briscoe’s early career was defined by work in Combat Zone Wrestling and Jersey All Pro Wrestling, where he and Jay Briscoe built a reputation as fearless young competitors. On July 14, 2001, the brothers won the CZW Tag Team Championship by defeating the original H8 Club, although they lost it in their first defense two weeks later. Mark also appeared in CZW’s Best of the Best tournament, gaining valuable singles experience.
Across both promotions, the Briscoes faced some of the top tag teams of the independent era and gradually earned national attention. Their fearless approach to physical danger and willingness to work dangerous stipulation matches made them a sought-after act on the East Coast circuit.
Ring of Honor Breakthrough (2002-2010)
Mark Briscoe became a featured performer in Ring of Honor from the promotion’s earliest days, with he and Jay soon forming one of the most decorated tag teams in company history. In 2003, they won the ROH World Tag Team Championship for the first time, defeating CM Punk and Colt Cabana, and went on to hold the title a record 13 times over the next decade. Their feuds with Samoa Joe, A.J. Styles, the Age of the Fall, and the Kings of Wrestling produced several of ROH’s most memorable matches.
Beyond the tag team ranks, Mark pursued singles gold and competed in ROH’s inaugural Survival of the Fittest tournament. He also participated in major ROH events such as Final Battle and Death Before Dishonor, gradually establishing himself as a credible singles competitor while maintaining his role as one-half of the Briscoes.
New Japan Pro-Wrestling and Impact Wrestling (2016-2022)
Through ROH’s working relationship with New Japan Pro-Wrestling, the Briscoes made their NJPW debut on January 4, 2016, at Wrestle Kingdom 10 in Tokyo Dome, teaming with Toru Yano to win the inaugural NEVER Openweight 6-Man Tag Team Championship. They aligned with the Chaos stable and traded the six-man titles with Bullet Club trios before winning the IWGP Tag Team Championship from Guerrillas of Destiny on June 19 at Dominion 6.19 in Osaka-jo Hall.
On April 1, 2022, the Briscoe Brothers made their Impact Wrestling debut at Multiverse of Matches, losing to The Good Brothers. They quickly rebounded to win the Impact World Tag Team Championship from Violent By Design at Under Siege on May 7, 2022, before dropping the titles back to The Good Brothers at Slammiversary after a 43-day reign.

He won the ROH World Championship for the first time on April 5, 2024, at Supercard of Honor, defeating Eddie Kingston in a moment that coincided with the 11th anniversary of Jay’s own world title win.
Mark later formed The Conglomeration with Kyle O’Reilly, Orange Cassidy, Willow Nightingale, and Tomohiro Ishii. After losing the ROH World Championship to Chris Jericho at AEW Dynamite in October 2024, he entered a feud with MJF and won the AEW TNT Championship by defeating Kyle Fletcher in a No Disqualification match at Full Gear on November 22, 2025, marking his first championship in AEW.
