Óscar Gutiérrez Rubio, better known worldwide as Rey Mysterio, is an American professional wrestler born on December 11, 1974, in Chula Vista, California. Standing 5 feet 6 inches tall, he has built one of the most decorated careers in professional wrestling history, combining high-flying offense with a signature masked persona. Regarded as one of the greatest luchadors and cruiserweight wrestlers of all time, Rey Mysterio is an inductee of the WWE Hall of Fame, the AAA Hall of Fame, and the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Hall of Fame.

Early Life and Background
Óscar Gutiérrez was raised in Chula Vista, California, a suburb of San Diego, in a family of Mexican heritage. His mother, María del Rosario, worked as a house cleaner, while his father, Roberto Gutiérrez, worked in a factory. Both parents came from humble, working-class backgrounds in Mexico and settled across the border in Southern California, where they raised their children.

Rey Mysterio’s 2025 storyline on SmackDown centered on a major televised feud between the Latino World Order and Chad Gable’s faction, American Made. The rivalry was built around Gable’s masked character El Grande Americano, a parody of lucha libre traditions that directly challenged Rey Mysterio’s cultural legacy.
